Moms- I have a dumb question.

We've never brought Ben in a pool before and will be doing so at our hotel on Sunday (yes, we are FINALLY coming home!). ?I bought him a pair of swim trunks at the baby Gap outlet today ($2.97- woot woot!!!). ?Can I used a regular diaper underneath it or do I need to buy those special swim diapers? Thanks!

Re: Moms- I have a dumb question.

  • The regular ones bloat up pretty big. Back in the day when I worked with toddlers at daycare we would use regular ones if the swimmers ran out. It was amusing.

     I hope he enjoys it!

  • Thanks! ?I'm hoping he will like it and if he does I plan to get a pool pass at our apt complex when we get home. : )
  • Oftentimes, hotel pools will have rules that babies MUST wear a swim diaper.  You should probably check with the place where you will be staying to see if they have that rule.

I know it is a rule for our pool too......regular diapers not only absorb a TON of water but they do not keep poopies from getting into the water :)

Great to know! ?I found a $1.50 coupon for them adn the Walmart out here has them on sale, so I will pick some up tomorrow.

Laura, do you know if they run true to size? ?I followed your advice on the Overnite diapers and bought a size bigger (he wears a 3 in Cruisers and a 4 in Huggies Overnites). ?TIA!?

  • I think the swim diapers run small.  I tried them on Kaelyn but they are still too big on her.  I put her in a regular diaper, then her bathing suit also has a built in diaper.

  • big diapers will explode and you'll have a very pissed off pool owner on your hands. Get the swim ones.
  • i have the swim ones for the boys. vinnys diaper size is a 6 and i have him in the lg.  tonys diaper size is a 5 and i have him in a med.

i went by the weight limits on their diapers to fit the swim diapers and that worked for me,  =)

    good luck!!!!!

  • owen wears the smalls and he has room to spare, he is currently in 3's which are big, shoulda got him 2-3's.

have fun swimming!  owen loves his kiddie pool! - but only when mommy goes in with him!    ha hasn't been in a real pool since 3 mos (at a hotel - shhh, i didnt put a diaper on him, he was way too small for the swimmers then, plus back then he only pooped like once a week! - and he was fine)

  • Jeanette - with swim diapers I have found that you can trust the weight guidelines (I never do that with regular diapers).  Jakob and Caroline both are in size 5 regular diapers but they wear different sizes in swim diapers!  Jakob just graduated into mediums recently and caroline is still in smalls.
