Recipe help needed

I'm going to a cookie swap party Friday night.  I want to do something a little different, so what do you think of this?  I think it sounds really fun and cute.  But I can't figure out how to transport them without making a mess.   Any suggestions?

Deviled Oreos
1 package oreos or other chocolate sandwhich cookie
1 can of premade white icing
green and red food coloring
green and red sprinkles

Open oreos and scrape out cream filling into a bowl.  Split the cream into two bowls.  Add a cup of icing to each bowl.  In one bowl add 3-4 drops of green food coloring, do the same with red in the other bowl and mix.  Add more food coloring if needed to get the color you want.   Pipe the icing back into each of the sandwhich cookies.  Top with sprinkles.

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

Re: Recipe help needed

  • It's not a bad idea, but they sell Oreos with red and green creme filling at Christmas time already.  You could just buy them that way.

    I would keep thinking.

  • You're suggesting she go out and purchase cookies instead of making them? FOR SHAME.
  • the food coloring won't change the color of the cookie ball.

you can either freeze them and then carry them around in a regular container, OR you can make them on-site. it would be kind of fun i think, like when you go to a flea market and some dude is demonstrating how to slice onions with a space chopper without tearing up.

  • I'm not sure how your exchange works, but this is what I would do: get enough boxes for the people (so they dont' have to be transported again).  I would line each box with tissue paper, then a layer of wax paper (tissue paper is just for decoration).  Then I'd put the cookies in sideways, like when you open up a box of regular oreos.  That would look pretty, I think.

I understand that you are worried about the mess, but with these cookies, I would just embrace the messiness.

    Have fun!
