Who's hosting/attending a holiday cookie exchange?

Hi ladies! I hope everyone's Thanksgiving celebrations went well! I've missed this board quite a bit but haven't had a chance to really post much the past few weeks. With a baby on the way, I've been lying low on the entertaining front and not hosting my usual weekly foodie events. It's all worth it in the end though. :)

Now being December, I have cookies and holiday baking on the brain. Anyone planning on hosting or attending a holiday cookie exchange this year? Let's hear about it!

Re: Who's hosting/attending a holiday cookie exchange?

  • I'm hosting my annual one this year but with a twist! Aside from cookies to be exchanged, I've also incorporated a swap of coffees, teas and/or cocoa mixes. So far we've got a good mix of folks coming (just a little shy of 30 guests).

It's in the afternoon so I'm doing some light apps and a few drinks, along with a hot cocoa and coffee bar.

    Spinach Phyllo Triangles
    Mushroom Phyllo Triangles
    Lamb Wonton Rolls
    Chorizo Wonton Rolls
Truffle Artichoke Dip w/pretzels & veggie crudites
Artisan Cheese Board w/assorted crackers & dried fruit

    DRINK MENU:
    Assorted Sodas & Wines
    Hot Cocoa w/homemade marshmallows
    Coffee w/condiments
    Hot Teas
    Peppermint Candy Canes
    Pirouette Cookies
    Caramel Sauce
    Vanilla Syrup
    Hazelnut Syrup
    Irish Cream Syrup

I'm still waiting on a few more folks to confirm what they will be bringing but here's what we got so far:

  • Hi Joelen!!

So excited for you and your DH. Babies are wonderful.

I am contemplating hosting one. We are already scheduled to have a get together on 12/20. 10 couples....very close friends and I may call them this weekend to see if we can do cookies as well.
We already having everyone bring some canned food for a homeless outreach we sponsor.
Love the coffee and tea idea!! I just saw coffee bag labels on martha stewart today. I can't find them now.

Have fun at your and can't wait to read about it.

  • I'm not, but wish I was attending one!  My boss brought it up at work, but it didn't go over well with the others.  I hope you have a good time at yours. :)

I love this idea. I think I'll incorporate it into my own Christmas party.

No cookie swap parties for me this year.

Congrats to your and your H Joelen.

  • I'm going to one tomorrow evening. I'm using a double chocolate cookie recipe and swapping the chocolate chips with chopped up andes mints!

  • I'll be attending one for the first time - making Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies, in the oven now!
  • Joelen-- I want to come to your party! Sounds great!

I'm trying to organize a cookie swap & gift exchange this year, but haven't tried the idea out on the friends yet... I need to get on that.

  • My first one is next Saturday!  EEK!

I invited about 20 people.  RSVP deadline is tomorrow, so we shall see!

I posted about it in my blog, if interested, with my menu and invitations and such!

  • Congratulations Joelen! So happy for you and DH!

I'm attending one next weekend and making peppermint patties. Not quite a cookie, but I figure it might be a nice change of pace from what others are bringing.
