Anyone have any cat adoption recommendations?

Hi ladies. My DH and I are looking to adopt a cat as our Christmas present to eacother. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for adoption agencies in the suburbs (Im in Naperville). Good or bad reviews would be helpful. Also, if you did end up adopting, what was the process like? Did they really call the refrences and vet? TIA!!

Re: Anyone have any cat adoption recommendations?

  • I can't give you any specific locations.  We adopted in Chicago Ridge.  Our adoption process was basically non-existent.  We filled out the application, found our dog, and took her home the same day.  If you're willing to drive, the Animal Welfare League had a ton of cats when we were adopting in mid-October.

  • I would suggest two kitties --- especially if you want to adopt a kitten. While you are working, they can play with each other and at night as well.  I am PAWS volunteer here in the city so just thought I'd throw that idea out there.....
  • I adoped a dog from Arfhouse but they also offer cat adoptions. I loved working with them. I filled out a question sheet and they called me to make sure it was a good fit for the dog. We were selected and then picked up the dog and off we went! Highly recommend!!!
  • Almost Home Foundation is a great rescue and they have a ton of cats (www.almosthomefoundation.org). They have adoption shows in Schaumburg, Barrington and Bloomingdale every Saturday.
  • A.D.O.P.T.?(Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment)?is right in Naperville. They are a nice shelter. I've talked with them at adoption events at Petsmart on Rt. 59 in Naperville, and they have a lot of kitties.

?Good luck finding your kitty and thank you for adopting! There are so many animals in need of good homes right now.?

  • Hello.  My husband and I live in Downers Grove and are also adopting a cat for Christmas.  We checked out our local Humane Society in DG, but their prices were high and they were less than friendly there.

We are going to adopt from the Chicago Ridge Animal Welfare League http://www.animalwelfareleague.com/.  My husband's family has adopted cats from there before and the process was simple.

  • Just a quick follow up... we ended up adopting a kitten yesterday from A.D.O.P.T. in Naperville. I thought that everyone was so sweet and I LOVED that they let the cats and kittens roam around freely in their respective rooms. Highly Recommend!!!
