70s themed party

Hello,

I'm having a 1970s themed birthday party for my husband.  Any ideas on decorating, favors etc.?  So far in the invitation I've asked the guest to dress up in 70s clothing.  I also plan on having a table top disco ball and tie dye table cloths (I believe tie dye was late 60s to early 70s).  Any other ideas?  For favors I was gonna give small disco balls that hang around your neck. TIA

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
  • I have to think about this one a little bit, but what about getting glass vases and filling some of them with mini disco balls and some with a pillar candle? You can set these along the table where you are serving food and/or drinks. Definitely go for bright colors for the beads and candles, but maybe use a black tablecloth so it stands out.

Other than that, I think all you would need would be a big disco ball and/or strobe light and a good playlist.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

  • I had a birthday party like that once. Play music of the era, we had albums out around the living/dining room from artists popular in that decade. Also, we watched movies later in the evening( you could have them as background? Or playing without soung while people dance?) like Blackula and whatnot. Also, the birthday cake was in the shape of a Big Smile.

     That's all I got. HTH.

  • I threw a friend a 70s themed birthday party a few years ago. I got old magazines from the week she was born (Tiger Beat/TV Guide/Teen Beat) and had them out on the coffee table, also printed out old 70s ads and hung them on the walls (Wella Balsam/Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific/Loves Baby Soft/Kiss My Lips Lip Gloss), had old records out, and went to Good Will and bought a few old serving platters to serve all the food on. Pleayed only 70s music and made a fun Jell-O mold! It was a huge hit and people loved looking through the old magazines and at the old ads! Good luck!
