I've been meaning to ask, how's your FIL doing?

Re: **Heather**

  • Meh. It is obvious that he's declining. To what extent, I'm not sure. MIL and I have decided also that he is obviously keeping some information from us on purpose. I do know he had a PET scan a week or so ago and his follow up appointment to go over the results is on the 23rd, so we'll see I guess, what gets divulged. He coughs a lot, has trouble breathing, there is a ton that he just cannot do anymore. I don't really know what to say/do about it. The DIL role is an odd one, even in a family like my ILs where I am considered their third child. Whether that's a self-imposed "odd" feeling, or not, I don't know, but there are certain topics that I don't feel comfortable broaching.

In any case, we are all just doing what we can do, and talking (with my MIL occasionally) or not talking (as my FIL and DH prefer) as the day warrants.

Sorry if it's a weird answer.

  • No, it makes sense.  No worries.  I think about him often.  Haven't seen him since I got back to work.  Is he still getting chemo?

  • No, he's long past chemo. He stopped it when it was clear that it had spread. Apparently chemo is only useful in the very early stages and not past a certain amount of development. (at least that's what I got from the story)

I don't expect you to see much of him unless he's there for a meeting (or for Molly, ha - did I ever mention he scheduled a meeting the day I was induced and showed up in my room in full out business suit? I laughed).  And I don't know if he'll be there any time soon, I know that they either just finished finalizing or finalized a little while ago a huge transfer of money to the hospital for a big project, so hopefully he won't have any reason to have a meeting there for a bit! Unfortunately, it wasn't the maternity ward like I have been pushing for (no pun intended), although I think maybe that might be the next one on the radar? :)
