Let's talk John and Kate plus eight!

OK, so this is my favorite show EVER. I am completely in awe of this family. Now, the reason I want to discuss the show is because I have almost gotten into some pretty heated arguments about this show with a co-worker of mine. I absolutely "get" their family dynamic. Well, not the 8 kids thing, haha! But, I am basically Kate. I am a control freak, germaphobe, perfectionist, I have OCD tendencies and a bit of a temper. But, I am also a very nice, loving person with a quirky sense of humor, just like Kate. DH actually likes the show because he sees that there is another woman out there just like me! And my DH is EXACTLY like John. Pretty much to a T. Now, my co worker is an extremely opinionated person and can be pretty insulting without even realizing it. When she overhears me talking about the show with another co worker of mine she automatically has to give her opinion. She's like "That Kate woman is an absolute biitch and she treats her husband so bad" blah blah blah. And my argument back is that yes, maybe she is being biitchy, but we can all be biitchy, right? Wouldn't you be if you had 8 kids? I don't know, I get snippy and not so nice with my DH sometimes and I'm not going to pretend that I am the perfect wife, because I am not. I just think my co-worker is the one being biitchy by jumping to conclusions and not putting herself in that situation. I also think she is fooling herself because she is quite a biitch! What is everyone else's thoughts on the dynamic between John and Kate? Anyone else with me?

I love the show and I think Kate and John's dynamic is great - they are total opposites - she's uptight, he's not and opposites tend to attract. I can see how your coworker thinks that Kate is constantly berating John, but I honestly don't see it like that and when John has had enough of it, he lets her know...they seem to have a great marriage and a wonderful family and really care and love about each other....

I have to say that while I admire Kate's successes and I understand that to a degree, you have to be OCD and a control freak to handle that many children, I do frequently have problems with the relationship she has with her husband (as it is portrayed on the show). To me, she shows such disrespect to him so often, treats him like the 9th child or belittles him, it makes me sad, because he seems like such a nice guy. I don't think she's an absolute ***, my take on it is that she has a hard time making the transfer from a mom of 8 to a wife. And who knows if *I* would be able to do it in her shoes?

Allison, I would really like to know what your problems with the show are? And we also have to remember that this show is probably severely edited. They probably put a lot of the more "dramatic" moments in because that's what people want to watch. Is everyone missing how nice, thoughtful and loving Kate can be? Seriously, am I the only wife/woman out there that isn't perfect? Am I the only wife that isn't always nice 100% of the time? I'm going to start to get a complex here, haha! I would love more opinions...

well, one thing I like about the show is that I know I do get snippy w/ DH at times, but when I watch that, I think I am great compared to Kate!! 

 I am also in awe of what she does.  She has 8 kids and they are all pretty well behaved.  Mady has her moments... 

 I wonder how much money they get from TLC to do it.  I wonder when they will get a big house!

 I do think that Kate sort of has favorite kids or least favorites - like Joel and Hannah.  I think her favorite is Leah.

 I also think she can NOT handle any criticism from John and then tries to blame him for doing something else so she can be mean to him.

I do LOVE the show!!
