monday a monster swell is supposed to hit...biggest one in 40 years...predicting up to 60 feet on oahu!!! the eddie aikau is actually supposed to be held tomorrow...i went in to work yesterday so i can check out some of the action in the morning...woohoo.

well not really 
but you kwim. take lots of pics! it's so hard to get the perspective from a camera...when i show peeps pics they don't think they are that impressive but they are freaking HUGE and amazing..at waimea, you can feel the ground rumbling.
there's some talk of closing roads and opening shelters on oahu's north shore
hopefully, it's not that bad but i'm excited...i'm cruising out there at about 5am...be there right before sunrise

I would love to be there now. You can rent a long lens for DSLR cameras.
www.hawaiicamera.com in Honolulu (Waialae Ave) is cheap and has a great selection. Make sure to shoot a few images and check the details. The lens we rented needed a backfocus adjustment. When we put the images on the laptop, I thought they didn't look sharp. Some cameras allow an AF micro adjust (our 7d does) to remedy it.
We liked www.lensrentals.com better. Their equipment was pristine and perfectly calibrated. They can ship to your house or a FedEx or UPS location for them to hold it. They won't ship to hotels, b/c the hotel isn't secure.
