I had a big long interview with the Children's Aid Society yesterday as well as the police re: one of my students who told me that "her parents used to beat her with anything they had on hand". She told the entire class this in the context of sharing a poem called The Whipping.
SWEET JESUS. How do parents get to this point? Seriously!
Re: VENT: bad parents
OMG. It's sad. I had students reveal all sorts of things to me like that. I was teaching them one-on-one (private voice lessons) so I am sure they felt it was safe. But it was always a dilemma for me how to handle it.
I saw "The Blind Side" last night and it just made me so sad for the milllions of kids out there born to parents who never wanted them in the first place. How does this happen? I swear! You need more training to drive a car than to have a kid. It's just wrong.
