Waking Baby to Change Diaper?

Alyssa NEVER has diaper rash.  But since she started sleeping through the night, she isn't getting her diaper changed for at least 9-10 hours and now we're noticing that she is starting to definitely get some kind of a rash, despite our using a great cream on her little bottom.  We're wondering if we should change her diaper once in the middle of the night so she doesn't have on the same one from start to finish of sleeping.  What do you do?

Re: Waking Baby to Change Diaper?

  • Have you tried just using regular vaseline?  If not, try coating "the area" with some before bed and see if she is still irritated from wetness in the morning.  This will occasionally happen to Caroline only if she has peed alot overnight and I find that the vaseline keeps it from happening.

    Good luck!

  • GREAT idea Laura!!  Trying that tomorrow night.  (she is already in bed).  Thanks!
  • We have never woken Kaelyn during the night for a diaper change.  Once she started STTN we always but on diaper cream when we changed her diaper before bed.  This has prevented any rash for her so far...(knock on wood)

  • Try using vaseline or auquaphor before bed.  It will provide a " seal" if you will.. to that area to protect it from moisture and will not wash away when she pees.  We do this with Brianna and it works wonders.  =  )

  • pretty much ditto everyone else.  We put on a new diaper right before bed always and we mainly use A&D (the preventative one, not the white one for when the already have a diaper rash) but have also used vaseline.  GL!
  • We've had good luck with Burt's Bees diaper creme. ?I slather in on right before I put his overnite diap on and that seems to do the trick!
