Appetizer ideas for New Years party
I'm having a New Year's party with just family and we are doing heavy apps and desserts instead of a dinner. I have a few ideas for apps (pigs in a blanket, pizza bread, mini quiches, shrimp cocktail, etc.) but I'm looking for a few more ideas. We want something easy and not fancy, yummy american-y things that can soak up the alcohol of the night. Any ideas? Thanks ladies!!

Also, Beer bread & cold spinach dip is soooo good! Serve the bread warm, and slice into small pieces. The spinach dip- theres a recipe on the back of the knorr veg soup dry packet-in the soup aisle.

This is a favorite among us NC Nesties - everytime I make it - it is gone in a flash.
Buffalo Dip (aka Crack Dip)
2 cans of chicken (breast meat drained)
1 cup ranch dressing
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3/4 Franks Red Hot Sauce (I dont use this much b.c we dont like very spicy)
2 packs cream cheese softened
Heat chicken in skillet, add ranch dressing. Stir. Add cream cheese - I use a fork to smash it until it melts. Stir. Add hot sauce and half of cheese. Stir some more. Transfer to baking dish top with remaining cheese. Bake @ 350 until cheese is melted.
We prefer Town House Toppers, but you can use Ritz and celery as well.
baked brie
spinach and cheese in phyllo cups
salad in won ton cups
polenta tartlets
stuffed mushrooms
crab puffs
wontons
I like to make this dip whenever we have people over. It's a cream cheese dip.
1 pound of spicey sausage
3 blocks of cream cheese
1 can of Rotel
Cook meat in a pan. Put cream cheese and rotel in a crock pot, then add the cooked meat, mix and put on low-med heat. I always get a lot of raves about this one!!!
btw, its really good with Fritos scoops!
Hi ladies,
I'm a lurker on this board, but thought I'd throw in my DH's queso dip. It's just a big block of melted velveeta melted down with rotelle. Really really easy, not at all healthy, but he makes it when there's alcohol to be soaked up and it works!

Ok, you must try this. Its super easy...
Get a bag of pretzels, a bag of Rolos (the chocolate caramel candy - you can buy them by the candy bars, but there's only 8 to a roll, so if you get them in a big bag, you're better off), and some pecans.
Lay the pretzels out on a baking sheet. Put a rolo on top of each one. Stick them in the oven for a few minutes to get the chocolate warm and melty. Then take them out and press the pecan into the top of them. It will spread the chocolate out to almost cover the whole pretzel. Let them cool for about 30 min and voila! Salty & sweet and everybody always loves them!
You're welcome!

Ok, here is a favorite of mine. Sorry, the directions are off the top of my head, not in a neat recipe format!
What you need :
Jimmy Dean Sausage (not maple flavored), 2 bricks of cream cheese, button mushroom tops
Make sure the stem is all the way removed from the mushroom cap. Scoop in a little cream cheese. Encase the stuffed mushroom cap in sausage (so it's like a mushroom truffle). Bake at 350 until they are a little cripy.
Ok, I get it--not great directions, but they taste yummy and are pretty simple so even with bad directions it is ok.
Here's an easy and really tasty appetizer recipe!
