christmas at Balboa park

Did anyone go to the Christmas celebration at Balboa park? Or how about the one in Little Italy?

Re: christmas at Balboa park

  • Not this year.  It is usually such a cluster it can be a little hard to enjoy.
  • We don't go to Balboa Park anymore for December Nights because of the crowds. It's so hard to find parking and when you do it's so packed and crowded that it isn't fun. We prefer to go to Hotel Del to look at the lights, have some hot chocolate and window shop. I'll be doing that this weekend with my mom.
  • We wanted to, especially since we live within walking distance this year, but after seeing the huge crowds and horrific traffic on our street, we decided we didn't feel like fighting the crowds there.

  • We went to December Nights on Friday night and it wasn't too bad.  Lots of people, but it didn't feel as crazy as it usually does.  I think part of that was taking the shuttle (we caught the one at the County Admin Bldg) instead of trying to find parking @ Balboa Park-- just avoiding all that stress made the whole evening more pleasant.

We did dinner at The Prado and it was full, but I was able to push my reservation back an hour (from 7 to 8) the day before with no problem.  I don' tknow if people decided to avoid Balboa Park thinking it would be too crowded, so the restaurant had space, or if people oped to eat at all the food stalls instead of doing fine dining or what, but the whole experience was very positive.

  • Sounds great. How was the Prado? I heard it was very good.
  • The Prado is my favorite place in San Diego, and it didn't disappoint this time.  If you haven't been, you definitely should go!
