Anyone else decorate this weekend???

Anyone else put up their xmas tree or decorate for the holidays this weekend???  We hung up xmas lights on our house for the first time ever!  It was pretty darn exciting....  Then last night we decorated our christmas tree.  Here is the link to some pics!

Re: Anyone else decorate this weekend???

  • Your tree looks beautiful!  Love the family picture.

We had planned to put our tree up this weekend, but ended up painting the living room instead!  Hopefully we can get a tree some evening this weekend - if not, next weekend!

  • We did, we did!!  We went out and bought our first tree and its REAL!!  I forgot how nice a real tree is....a bit of a pain in the arse, but it smell like Christmas!  When we were home for Thanksgiving we put up my parents tree and I grabbed some of my old ornaments and old ones that my mom doesn't put on the tree anymore, but are still special.  Kristina, I'm so happy to see another tree with red bows!

  • Thank you.  Stacy what color did you paint your living room????

Emni you got a real tree???  Jealous....our dog would chew that thing apart.  I want that smell! :)  lol...my mom still has ornaments I made out of construction paper and glitter....and yarn!  lol....Yay for red bows!!!!!

  • We did!

We got our tree this weekend- my tree hugger DH (kidding. kind of) didn't want to cut down a tree so we dug up a live one with roots and all. FIL and BIL came up to help, and it was still crazy difficult and heavy! We thanked them with a big crock-pot full of turkey chili and a case of beer though, mmm...

We decorated it that night and our house feels so Christmas-y now, I love it!

  • oh, and your tree looks gorgeous BTW!!
  • Thanks Amy!  Turkey chili sounds so good!  Wow roots and all????  So are you going to replant it when you are done?  That's a cool idea!  Never thought about that....
  • Your tree looks awesome!

We decorated this weekend too. DH wasn't that into but I think by last night because he was hanging stuff in places that he swore up and down he wouldn't. SIL came over and DH more or less just sat and watched and played with his farm on FB but we had a good time anyway. I'll have to post some pics tonight.

  • It was delicious, Kristina!

And that's the plan... although I don't know how we're going to get it out of the house when we're done! It's SOOO heavy. DH's family did this every year when he was growing up so he wanted to do it, but it was all new to me!

  • We painted the living room "Ashley Gray" (Benjamin Moore historical collection).

     Here is a not-so-great pic:

  • Amy that sounds like a great idea.  I never thought about replanting a real christmas tree, makes sense.  Maybe next year!

Stacy I really like that color!  It looks really good with the white mantle and floors, really makes the white trim pop!  Good job!  We just painted our guest bathroom "antique ruby"...it is very...um...red! lol....still finishing the trim.  We are doing our bedroom next, should be fun....  Big Smile

  • yay for decorations! beautiful!

Amy, dont tell your dh this but i read somewhere the other day that only 10% of trees that are replanted survive, I guess it's hard for them to bounce back from the shock of being out of the ground or something. Wish I could remember where I read it, I think it was online and they were talking about how most trees actually come from tree farms and then they started talking about people who try to be eco-friendly and replant trees. I hope your tree can make it!! :)

  • We did we did! We put lights outside for the first time ever (yay!) plus a really cute Christmas sign in the garden that we got from Walmart. Then Saturday we went with some friends of ours to a tree farm and cut down our tree and then hauled it home and decorated it Sat night (we also went to Mellow Mushroom for lunch Sat which made the day even better!!) Topped off the night with our traditional hot chocolate, cookies, and Christmas movie. It was great :) As soon as I can find the cord for my camera I will post pictures of our adventure!
  • We did as well - We also ripped our house apart for the LED lights we bought last year but couldn't find.  I was on my way out the door to get new ones when hubby found them in a box.  We didnt' put out a tree last year because we had a new puppy who was very into eating bad things.  We gave it a go this year and so far, so good.  Her happy butt knocked a few of the non breakable ornaments we used at the bottom around a little but nothing is the worse for the wear.  She was more interested in licking the lights as they were going on the tree.  Silly dog.

I'm tempted to put my other Christmas lights out front because it is supposed to snow buckets tonight and how cool would that look!?

  • We got our Christmas Tree this over the weekend.  I love it.  It's so beautiful, and I absolutely love the smell of a real tree.  I will never get a fake one.  I even have a few presents wrapped under the tree already.

  • MMMMM Mellow mushroom.....I'm hungry!  I love that place, too bad we have none here!  Our dog never really played with our ornaments....which surprises me......she would prefer to shred the carpet and my shoes instead.  I wish it would freaking snow here!  We are just going to miss the "massive" snow storm and just get rain.....booooo.....
  • We did - our first tree in 5 years!!  yikes it's huge!

Cipolla - ours is fake, unfortunately, but I bought a Yankee Candle to get the smell, there are a few options, and they're pretty good.

  • Ooooooh I really like the blue and silver!!!  AND LOVE THE PEARLS!!!!  My mom used to put pearls on our tree!!!  I wonder where those pearls are...hmmmm...idea.... :)  I like your ribbon/bow on the top too!  SO pretty!  They have a christmas tree or pine yankee candle???  I need to find one!
  • We are putting ours up on Saturday. We were going to do it this Sunday past and then I decided it was a little to early. Where i'm from it's tradition to keep your tree up until after the first week of the new year so we usually put it up in the middle of December. I love having it up though. It always looks so pretty.
