Need opinions, please...

We put the valence up tonight, but I'm not sure that I like the ends of the pole sticking out bare like that.  The furniture is a cherry color and I think that the black might look out of place.  I was thinking of gluing a green dancing dino on each end to maybe balance it out a little...what do you think?

Re: Need opinions, please...

  • As much as I love those dinos, I think it would be overkill to put dinos on the ends.  Can you pull back and show a picture of  walls with furniture and accessories?

The way I'm seeing it in my mind, I think the black finnials (sp?) will be far enough away from the furniture so that it won't matter if it doesn't match exactly.  But you should go with dark rather than light.

  • The furniture hasn't come in yet...and the walls are still bare with the exception on a shelf on the wall to the left of the valence (see PIB).

My hubs thinks that the black looks okay...I'm just not sure ;)

  • From what I can see, the black looks alright to me. As long as the furniture is a dark color I do not think it will look bad. I do agree with pp about how the dinos on the end may be a little much... just my two cents.
  • I think it looks fine.  However until you have the furnitre set up dont make any changes.  You will have a whole different opinion then Im sure.  The room looks great though.  I cant wait to see the final results.
  • I agree with pp's.  I didn't even notice the black finnials sticking out until you pointed it out.  And I think it will look fine with the dark cherry furniture.  I also agree that more dino's might be too much.  Don't make any permanent changes until you get everything in there and then you'll be able to see how the pieces look with the room and tweak it the way you want it.  HTH!
  • I actually don't like the black.

It is a kids room so you can go over the top somewhat and add dinos -- but I would actually probably go with a brushed or satin silver finish. That way it won't clash with the furniture. (It will basically disappear)

They have lots of shapes for the "end" or fennel. . . I have a cube or square end on my curtain rod in my office and I love the way it looks. (My bedroom has a rounder ball on it in brushed satin and I like that as well)

Oh, if you add the dinos you will then then to go out and buy new rods once your child gets older and changes the theme.

I would get rid of the black . . . go with your first instinct. You will probably constantly question that choice and it will be something that bothers you even though it might not bother anyone else.

  • I agree that adding the dinos may be overkill. What if it was cherry to match the furniture? What did you decide on frames for the pictures you painted....how bout matching the fennel to whatever the frames are?
  • I think the black is popping out a lot now b/c everything around it is so much lighter. I think once the furniture is set in you may not notice it as much. If the furniture has touches of silver/nickel, I'd consider changing the rod, other wise it may just work once everything is in place.
  • Steph Do you remember or even know what color your hardware is on the crib.  I know when we were there we were told we could pick it out.  I think The choices were gunmetal, silver/chrome like, and gold.  Again I would wait to see what the whole room looks like 1st.
  • I agree with everyone else....the Dinos may be overkill.

I think you should wait until your bedroom set comes in before changing it.  You might not even notic the black.

Zach's room is sooo freaking Cute!!!

  • Adorable! We went with white, because the trim and blinds and other stuff in Gabe's room is white. I can't remember if I found the white rod- or if I spray painted it white. I was big into spray painting things (through DH's arms- LOL) when I was decorating.

Thanks everyone! :)  I'll see how it looks next week when the furniture comes in.

Snj...we got the gunmetal with the crib.

Cmeon...I'm not allowed near anything that sprays anything bad, like spray glaze.  Hehehe.  I got in trouble for that ;)
