How many at 1st birthday?

How many were at your child's 1st birthday. Unfortunately we have too many people on our list so I will be cutting it down to pretty much just family. DH's family is much bigger than mine. So hopefully my friends understand, although some live in CT so I don't know if they would have driven to NH. Just curious how many you had and what food did you serve. Thanks!

Re: How many at 1st birthday?

  • We kept ours relatively small. I think I invited 10-15 little ones for the friends party and kept it to immediate family for our home- which still left us at like, 20-30ish.

We served sandwiches for the adults and cupcakes/juice/milk for the kids and then at our house had a bbq type setup- I made jambalaya, meatballs, MIL sent over an edible fruit arrangement, we had a cold cut platter with finger sandwich rolls, salad, etc. Oh, and cake. :)

  • My SIL always just did immediate family (parents and siblings) for 1st birthdays and still does for my nephews birthdays....perhaps when they are older they will have their friends over....she always just had coffee and cake in the mid-afternoon....most likely we will do the same for Austin...
  • 30-40 ppl for each one. yesterday we had six babies (4-14 months)  at Andy's party... these were the "shaved down" invite lists. I have a huge family!

  • We just had immediate family and 1 of our neighbors (the kids play with Gabby a lot) . . . it was about 20 adults and 5 kids.It was the same basic guest list for her 2nd birthday, too.

I served more lite-picnic type foods (sandwiches, potato and pasta salad, chips, veggies, etc...) because it was after Christmas and, by that time, people are just tired of eating heavy foods. Plus, it was easier for me :)

This birthday (3rd), I think we're going to expand to include some friends and their kids and have it at a kid-friendly place.

  • Jakob's was bigger, but Caroline is getting shafted and there will probably be 15-20 people at hers!
