Holiday Vacation Questions

Next year I would love to do a family vacation for Christmas.  I would like to present the idea this year so everyone who would be interested could start saving.  It would only be about 10 of us.  My question is... have you done this?  Where did you go?  How was the weather?  I'm thinking maybe Mexico, DR, anywhere warm.  Did you miss being "home" for Christmas?

I'm open to any advice.

Re: Holiday Vacation Questions

  • We went on a cruise one year for Christmas to the Caribbean, and it was fantastic.  Loved every second!  We went on Royal Caribbean.

  • our family usually goes to telluride, co for the holidays. telluride is very "christmas-y" (snowy, lots of lights, holiday cheer etc), so i never missed not being home. truthfully, i really miss it a lot when i cant go and am sad that i wont be going there this year. traveling during the holidays can be stressful, but its so worth it when you are at your final destination and can completely relax and enjoy fun, quality time with the fam.
  • My family did this one year, but we went in early December instead because it was a lot cheaper.  We went to Curacao and stayed at an AI which worked out great!  There was enough to do for everyone ages 5 to 60 or so.  I wouldn't probably miss being 'home' for christmas, if I were with my family anyway!  If it were just DH and I, I think I would miss being home though.  Most of the Caribbean resorts make a fairly big deal over holidays and serve traditional foods etc.  as well so it won't be completely foreign seeming on Christmas day.
