I know it's a little late in the game but I figure now is as good a time as any to pick a college football team, so I can study up for next season. DH and I both went to schools where football/athletics weren't high on the list of priorities, so we have no college to fall back on. Here are some details to help you sway me:
I was born in TX and grew up in CA
I lived in MD for several years, but have an issue with rooting for turtles
My dad and brother went to UCLA, the only school any of us has gone to with a shot at a decent football team
I applied to Notre Dame but was turned down
My dad was in the Navy, but didn't go to the academy
My college had Jim Harbaugh as their coach for a few years, and I like him, but don't know if it's enough to make me a big Stanford fan
I live in PA but hate Penn State (sorry Joe Pa)
I work near Rutgers
And...pick me a team!
Re: Help me pick a college team
Of course, I'm going to suggest the Oklahoma State Cowboys. OSU doesn't really have much relation to anything to you or near you, though!
Awesome school, fantastic colors, kick arse mascot, deep traditions, etc. All the good stuff. Sure, we don't win them all... but we have fun while we're at it.
NAVY!
ps - I LOVE HEAT MISER! That is my favorite Christmas movie of all time!
Auburn!
Auburn is all about tradition and family....hence the "Auburn Family". Every Saturday at Jordan-Hare is a big get together with 87,451 of your closest friends!
Auburn is a great school academically and the spirit of Auburn and the love of the university by the students, faculty, alumni and community is truly incredible. My DH works in college athletics so I've been around and on the inside of many universities and no where else compares to AU!
And you want to pick a school in the best conference out there...the SEC!
War Eagle!
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
"It's a child, not a cheeto" Thanks mmariluh!
"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
Nebraska. We're the best fans in college football!
I'm an Oklahoma State girl [along with tj], and she pointed out all the valid reasons why people are fans.
However, I'm with Gator in that you should pick a team you can watch and support that's closer to home. When H and I move away from Oklahoma, I'm gonna have to buy the CFB package through my satellite company so I can keep up with the team. Boo.
Go State!
Even though they turned you down, I say go with ND. They have fans/club everywhere and all of their home games are televised nationwide
Plus, if you start now people won't accuse you of being bandwagon since we suck.
come to Ohio State
we have the only two time Heisman winner in the history of the trophy (suck it Tim Tebow), Woody Hayes, dotting the I in script Ohio always noted as one of the greatest traditions in college ball, we play ball in The Shoe, we consistently don't screw up too badly (nor are we always stellar) so there are no huge highs and huge lows, we have pretty decent basketball/hockey/baseball/softball teams, we are home to one of the most sought after medical school teaching programs in the nation, and we have some of the best tailgating in collegiate athletics (Hiney Gate anyone??)
Go Bucks!!
I'm going to second being an Auburn fan! I love that no matter where I go, I find someone with Auburn paraphernalia and give them the requisite "War Eagle" and they "War Eagle" back! I had a wreck once up here in KY and Auburn fans were the ones that stopped to help.
The really fun part is, a few years ago my parents went on a cruise around the Hawaiian islands and Dad wore his Auburn hat. Some guy muttered "I just can't get away from you people." Turns out he was a Bama fan and this was when Auburn was really good and Bama was...not.
My Bio
Another NU vote.
This happens with many college teams. I have seen Wisconsin Badger gear all over the world.
Dr. Loretta, I'd go with UCLA if your dad/bro are fans. If not, Rutgers! They are moving up.
Rutgers, obviously!! you work by me, why didnt I know this?
