I hope DH isn't offended by this.

BIL and SIL are getting DH the Biggest Loser Wii game for Christmas as well as accessories for his "home gym" (didn't know we had a home gym but whatever).  I would FREAK OUT if anyone ever got me workout/weight loss things for Christmas unless I specifically asked for them, so I'm not sure if I should warn DH ahead of time.

BIL and SIL are very healthy.  The only snack they eat is unsalted pretzels.  They also run a lot.  I'm pretty sure they think DH and I are fat, lazy, pigs but we like to eat a cookie sometimes!

It's going to be such an interesting Christmas....

  • Yeah, I'm with you.  I would never get anyone "weight loss" related unless thye specifically wanted it.  That's ballsy!
  • Sometimes they email him workout routines and weight loss tips.  He could stand to lose a few pounds, but he's not obese by any means!  I'm pretty sure the Navy would let him know if he was getting dangerously overweight for their standards.

  • Yeah I agree, unless someone asked for that kind of thing I would never get that as a gift. Its pretty offensive and kinda rude.

Maybe as a joint gift to a whole family would be ok, but picking one person to give it to is just kinda, meh!

    Ditto!

I'd probably develop a complex or something if someone randomly gifted me weight loss-related items, but I'm sensitive about that subject.

  • Flip Flops... A really good friend (who is 5'2" and about  the weight of a feather) gave me a subscription to a magazine-I think it's called MODE? where it's for women who are sized 14- and up.  I was offended-and was a size 18 at the time... but I just let it go.  I realized she meant well, but I could have sent her a magazine for short people, too...

Hope he takes it in stride!

  • Oh wow. I would be totally offended, but men say they don't mind. I think it will probably hurt his feelings even if he says it doesn't. But I don't know if I would tell him or not. Sorry, your Bil and Sil are making you decide this. Why did they tell you their gift for him anyway?

    OMG, who does that?

DH would never say it bothered him in front of people, but I have a feeling he's going to ask me if they're trying to tell him something.

P.S. - Is there such a thing as a magazine for short people??  I'm 5'0" and might be interested if there is!

    This!

    I'd be livid.

  • I wouldn't be offended, call me crazy, maybe I'm just too laid back.  However, I wouldn't buy anyone "weight loss" related, but receiving such things wouldn't bother me.
  • I wouldn't be offended but I'm pretty sure that most of my friends/family know I love to workout and try new things.  However, if someone bought this specifically for my husband, he would probably be offended.  So bascially, it's not a gift I would give someone unless they asked for it because you never know what they would think of it.
