Outside pipe question

For those who have outside pipes, what do you do during winter? DH and I cannot seem to agree on the proper process to protect our outside pipe during these cold months.

what kind of pipes are they? (and just out of curiosity, where outside are they?)

It's on the side of the house and it is a faucet, I should have said. The ones you can connect your hose to and maybe wash your car? Do you have one? It's gonna be freezing tomorrow and I cannot deal with a burst pipe!

Oh so its called a spigot huh? Thanks for the heads up. I didn't understand the instructions (I am a bit foggy this a.m. but I will show it to DH)

basically, it seems like you have to shut the water off at the inside valve for that spigot, then go outside and turn it on(open?) so that all the water that's in the pipe drains out.

In the spring you just turn it off outside, then go inside and turn the valve on again.

hose bib! sorry, that's the regular name for it.

I just saw this video that mentions a few other things that might be good to check out on the exterior of your house for the winter.

yes, this is what we do.  Sorry, I didn't realize this is what you were talking about.  We have one of these, too. :-)
