Anyone have any ideas for DIY Christmas decorations? It's my first year out of my mothers house, and DH's first year where it wasn't just him and the kids (we were dating for the last 4 Christmas's- just not living together so I wasn't decorating his house lol) I have bought a few decorations this year and got hand-me-downs from my mom and friends, but I don't have as much as I'd like. Im searching for some cute ideas online, but also wanted to see if you guys had any ideas. Keep 'em cheap if you can, thats the point-I don't want to spend a lot of money. The kids and I are going to make paper snowflakes tonight to put up around the house.
Re: IDEAS
Target has small felt stockings 5 for $2. You can buy them and decorate them with glitter pens. I got them to use to hold utensils as decoration of the place settings but you can hang them. Or you could do the same thing with bigger stockings.
I also made an ornament tree. You buy the cheap glass ornaments, again at target, and glue them to a styrofoam cone you can get at JoAnn's. Or you could do the same thing with fake fruit - they sell the glitter ones this time of year. Or you could simply put various glass ornaments in a bowl and, voila, centerpiece. I put some small glass ornaments in hurricane lamps with candles on the mantle.
Have fun!
How long do the cranberries last? I always thought about doing that but we put our tree up fairly early so I didn't know if that would be such a good idea...
A friend of mine just did DIY ornaments with her son, here is the recipie:
2 cups each of flour and salt...1 cup water...mix until smooth and moist. Roll out like you are making cookies and use holiday cookie cutters to make the shapes. Bake at 200 until they harden, decorate.
H has a couple like this from growing up and I love putting them on the tree.
Thanks for that idea, sounds like a really cool thing to do with the kids, and easy! I like that, lol
