I wont be on as much anymore because I start my job at an elementary school tomorrow! I am really nervous, hopefully I do ok. I hear some of the groups I will be tutoring (up to 18 kids at a time) are a hand full, but I just gotta stand up and show them who's boss on the first day. Wish me luck! I hope this leads to a real instructional job for the next year!
Meet Moses, one of my many babies!

Re: Wish me luck!!
From a former teacher, two things:
1) You'll be fine. For real. You'll probably also be exhausted.
2) Seriously. For the first few weeks, your goal is to establish your classroom rules. I once was told (as a joke) that a teacher shouldn't smile until after Christmas. Certainly don't take it that far, but remember - teacher first, friend later.
good luck!
Someone told me once, with kids, you need to be like an ice cream cone: hard in the beginning and soft at the end.
My Wedding Bio! Not updated in a LONG time!
haha yea ive also heard those very same things. My problem is i have a VERY high, soft, voice! During my internship my teacher made me wear a microphone so that my voice would project around the classroom (they had speakers in the ceiling) it really helped! They dont have that where I'm going, but I am also a much more confident teacher. I've been practicing in the mirror today lol
The bad thing is the lady that's been covering my position is a push-over and she says the kids run all over her. Tomorrow, I will be just watching as she teaches and then the next day I take over. I dunno if I should stand up tomorrow and say something to the kids, or wait until Friday when they are in my full reign.

Good luck!
Of course it's easier for males to be firm, but here's a story in case it helps you...
DH subbed for a high school class that had taken extreme control (no joke... urinating in bottles and throwing them around IN CLASS) and the teacher basically had to take a break from teaching it . He walked into the class with a strip of referrals and introduced himself... I'm a cool guy and I want to have a good time with all of you while I'm here, but I will not tolerate bad behavior and I am not afraid to write you a referral. The kids were great and the school district wanted to hire him without a teaching credential because of the behavior turn-around.

Good Luck, Foto! You will be just fine!
