  • i prefer working with Canon. I have an XTi that i adore.

have you tried out any in store to get a feel for them? i think i spent a few weeks playing with different brands and it came down to canon and nikon - and i just overall preferred Canon.

www.dpreview.com has great reviews on stuff too to check out!

  • Ditto PP. Getting your hands on them can help you decide between brands.

If I was buying a starter DLSR right now, I would go for the Nikon D5000 -- a kit is about $650, I think.

  • I second the Nikon D5000.  I got mine for around $650.

This.  Just got it a few weeks ago for $699.  I really like it so far!

  • Last Christmas, DH got me the Canon Rebel Xti... and I love it!  It is very easy to use.  We got a package through Costco that included the camera, 2 lenses, instructional DVDs, 2GB memory card for just under $800.

This yr they have similar packages for Canon and Nikon.  Costco also has a 90 day return policy if you don't like, even if item open!  Other stores (ie Best Buy) give you 30 days to return unopened, and charge a restocking fee).
