iPhone/iTunes Help

My computer malfunctioned and some how we lost some of our music in iTunes. I have the music on my iPhone but it won't let me transfer it back to the computer. I have been doing some searching and see that there are some programs (free and not) that will allow you to do this. Specifically, I am looking at copytrans and iphone-explorer. Does anyone know if any of these programs will work? Any other suggestions would be great too. Thanks!

Re: iPhone/iTunes Help

  • You don't need a program.  You can basically save the music from your phone onto your hard  drive and then, after you create a new iTunes, just move it in.

Directions can be found here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/07/16/copy-or-transfer-music-and-songs-from-ipod-to-pc-and-computer-without-itunes/

I have done this a few times and was successful.

  • The iPhone encrypts the data differently than the iPod, so the direct transfer that was possible with the iPod isn't as easy with the iPhone.

I ran into this issue when our external HD was bricked, but was still using an iPod at the time, so I was able to recover the music I had on the iPod easily, but had to purchase a program to recover my pictures.

I'd suggest just doing a little bit of searching for review on the software you're thinking of buying to get the job done.  But you should be able to recover everything.
