We bought our tree on Sunday and got a nice fresh slice off the bottom, and had it in water in our house less than 30 minutes later. The tree has barely drank any water. I tried warm water since we live in a cold climate and that doesn't seem to help either.
Is it ok for a tree to go 4 days without drinking water? We've never had this problem before and we keep putting off decorating the tree until we see that it has taken some of the water. We're going to decorate tonight and hope it doesn't topple over before xmas.
Any ideas to help it get thirsty??? Someone told me to add vodka but I'm not wasting it until I hear some more ideas. Thanks in advance!
Re: Christmas tree isn't drinking water!
We always pour vodka in our tree water. But for some reason our trees only like the really expensive stuff. Try Grey Goose, pour a big bottle in, that should help.
Also goldfish food works sometimes too. Do you know what kind of tree you have?
Good luck, let us know how it works out!
You could try adding some sugar to the water. The person we bought our tree from says it somehow helps the tree to absorb the water. I would cut off another inch or so and add the sugar.
lol!
Sugar AND salt. Like a saline solution.
Make sure you give it some bleu cheese olives with the vodka...or cranberry juice (if it's a girl tree) since girls like fruity drinks.
Disolve two aspirin into the water.

I thought it was common knowledge that hot cocoa with extra marshmallows is the best for your tree.
Are you serious???
Only if you add peppermint schnapps to it.
It is!!!
Some of you guys are hilarious. Many thanks to those who provided what I think may be serious suggestions!
This or you could add sprite/7up. The trees use the carbohydrates and sugar in the drinks.
