Would u get fired for your Facebook/Myspace page?
I was reading the Sentinel today and they had a story on some UF medical students and their Facebook accounts... I guess some UF researchers went searching for the Facebook pages of all the medical students and found some interesting things, to say the least.
So I'm just wondering if you have accounts on Myspace/Facebook, do you tame it down just in case your employer or co-workers were to snoop?
I know that I don't put up any of my super crazy pics ... but that doesn't mean my friends haven't posted stuff from parties or get togethers.... It's kind of scary when you think about how much info we put on the internet about ourselves.
Re: Would u get fired for your Facebook/Myspace page?
I saw an article a long time ago that employers were looking at these pages before hiring people. ?There have actually been a lot of employers that will not hire people because of their pages. ?
Personally I am not a shy person and I am very open. ?But that is only if I know you. ?I am not going to post anything about myself that I wouldn't want the entire world to know. ?In my opinion, that is just dumb.
But, the only reason I actually have a myspace page is because I found some friends from high school that I had lost touch with. ?I don't have it for any other real reason. ?So I would absolutely not post anything about myself that is questionable. ??
I have heard stories about that too. I understand certain employers will research into your page to find out about a potential employee. Makes sense. If someone is gonna put it out there be prepared for the consequences.
I find it quite tacky when a teacher has skantily clad party pics doing body shots posted online for all students to see.
My Myspace page is set to private. There are a few pictures that could be considered bad...but nothing I would be embarrassed about if my bosses saw them.
...well that one picture of you modeling is pretty hot, Steph.....
I work in a high school (and not that this applies directly to any of us here), but our guidance counselors are telling our students that college admission officers are looking at myspace and facebooks of their applicants. So all these students who are posting pics of themselves at keg parties, etc could possibly be ruining their chances of getting into the schools that they want to go to.
No, I wouldn't.
BUT there are private things that I wouldn't want employers to know about. For that reason, mine is set to private, and people can only search for me by my maiden name. If they dont' know my maiden name, they don't need to see me on there anyway. When I was a recruiter, I had lots of candidates hit on me over the phone so this way, they couldn't get in my business.
I did look up potential candidates from time to time, though.
I think the worse thing I have is pictures of my gnomes, that my brother put in sexual positions...lmao
Oh and some beer pong pictures. I'd remove them in the event of me looking for new employment.
I have both MySpace and Facebook but there's nothing on there that is inappropriate. I even have bachelorette party pics on there but we aren't doing anything "scandulous."
I will say though that my mom works for Disney and occasionally asks me how to use MySpace so that she can look up an employee's profile to see if they are lying about something. I don't remember the exact details but I was weirded out that an employer would think to do that to someone after they are hired.
My MySpace is still under construction, but I doubt it would have anything really bad in it anyway. However, it is set to private so no one that I don't specifically allow can see it anyway.
