I saw this article in a Christian Science Monitor magazine left in my work lunchroom, and thought you guys would find it interesting.
http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0727/p17s01-algn.html
It mentions that there are several websites where people write anonymous confessions about experiences in their life, and discusses why people feel compelled to do this. I never heard of this until the article - have I been hiding under a rock? Well, I have heard about fmylife, but I thought that was more about complaining about your life.
Quote:
"ExperienceProject.com, TruuConfessions.com, FMyLife.com, PostSecret.com, and many others encourage users to anonymously post diary entries that range from mundane thoughts to game-changing epiphanies."
So yeah, I was wondering about your thoughts - would you confess something really private there? Does anyone already use something like this? Or do you feel that you are revealing enough in your own blog?
I actually think I would confess private things there, without my picture of course... well, I would need to look at the sites and get a feel for them. But I like the idea of sort of "letting something go" like this.
I think some of the sites allow for others to comment on your post, and others don't. I'll let you know what I do if I do it, and how I felt afterward, if it was worth it.
**oh, I just looked at experienceproject.com, and it's about talking about a wide variety of experiences, likes, etc., as well.
Re: Anonymous confessions: wwdt?
My sister has led a difficult life. She really enjoys PostSecret because it helps her feel like there are other people who've had hard times, and she's not alone. I bought her one of the PS books for Christmas this year.
She's talked about mailing a card, but I'm not sure if she's actually done it. I think what appeals to her, is the idea that if you don't want to talk about things with your loved ones - for whatever reason - there's still a place to go where you can "let it out".
