Vent: Anyone else feeling "bah hum bug"?

As a follow-up to Reese's bah hum bug, anyone else have anything bugging them re: the holidays?

I've feeling grumpy with some friends.  I've known these girls since elementary school (and hs) and always send out e-mails to try and get the gang together a few times a year for dinner.  Of course not everyone can usually make it but we do what we can.

A few weeks ago, all of us (except one gal) had dinner together and it was great.  The one gal who couldn't make it, (I'll call her K) asked another gal to "tell" me to organize another one closer to Christmas between a specific set of dates.  Um, hi why can't you call/e-mail and ask me yourself?

Anyway, I sent out an e-mail with a choice of 3 dates to all girls.  Only one of them replied to say there was one date she couldn't make.  Great, that helped me narrow it down.  No one else e-mailed any date preferences so I took that to mean they were OK with all the dates.

I sent out an e-mail saying "let's GTG on this date".  Well suddenly I get 4 responses (from different girls than the 1 that replied to me) saying they can't make that date.  Fine.  I find out later, it's because those 4 are going to K's DH's b-day party which had been planned for a while.

Um first of all, why couldn't K and the other 3 who are going to HH's b-day tell me they couldn't make that day when I sent out the first e-mail asking for preferred dates?

2nd, why couldn't K tell me, "Can you organize something, but not on the XXth because I'm busy (with H's b-day) that day?"

3rd, I'm kind of hurt that no one else seems to bother organizing these GTG's.  I know we've all grown apart and have different friends but doesn't the fact that we made it through elementary school, hs, uni, and our work not mean anything to anyone else?  I guess it would just really hurt me to think that it doesn't.

Gah!  I've organized something with the remaining girls and am not going to bother organizing anything with K and the other 3 until after the New Year, if at all.  Petty I know, but it would just frustrate me more to have to deal with K or the other 3.

Sorry for the novel...  If anyone else wants to vent I'll be here to read...

Re: Vent: Anyone else feeling "bah hum bug"?

  • I am totaly with you on this....I am in the same boat with some of my other friends.  Especially since I got married.  I have guy friends and girlfriends that hang out together.  My husband says that the guys are jealous that I'm married and they didn't have a chance with me :) LOL so they rather not be a part of my new life, even though I still want to be a part of my old one.  Oh well, thank God for our married friends that can handle being around a married couple
  • that sucks... I don't know why they would do that to you... you have every right to feel the way that you do. i'm sorry they always leave it up to you to plan things but I think it's fine for you to go ahead w/the GTG w/o the others...

and as far as your question goes... i think i have been too busy with miss Annalise to even think about feeling bah hum bug Stick out tongue

    Awww... aren't you lucky!  Smile

  • Awww, sorry about all the stress that's coming with what's supposed to be joyous--hanging out and catching up with old friends for the holidays. Well, that K girl sounds a bit like a drama queen, having someone else to tell you to schedule something and then not mentioning her husband's bday. Either way, you're a fantastic and caring friend for trying your best to get ppl together and you should just keep with the scheduled date since everyone already had a chance to speak up earlier and you shouldn't have to stress out about switching things around to accommodate them when they don't try at all on their part.

  • I am sorry.  On another note, at least you have friends to organize GTGs with...me?  Not so much.  I have been here a year and a half and have no girlfriends.  And we have no couples friends either.  Just coworkers.  And my mom.  It sucks.  I am especially missing my friends back in CA this time of year since we'd always GTG for wine and cheese and silliness.
