windows 7 question

might be a dumb question but I got my windows 7 upgrade in the mail finally.  Do I need to do anything special to my computer besides back-up my documents? Also will i need to re-install the programs back onto the computer? Thanks

Re: windows 7 question

  • When I upgraded last week all of my programs/documents came along to the new windows.  I didn't have to back up or do anything special.
  • if you just do the upgrade and not the total new install, everything should tag along into Windows 7. It will make you backup everything before it upgrades.

  • There's an upgrade compatability test that you can access through the Windows 7 website.  I suggest you do this before you perform the upgrade.  The previous posters are right that your documents, images, etc. will be migrated, but you may have programs installed on your computer that are not compatible with Windows 7.  The first time I ran the utility I had at least 10 programs that required action (updating or removal).  This included my virus software.  And this was with a x64 running Vista.
