Gift for Daycare

Ok - last year at Christmas I was still taking DS to work with me - so this is the first Daycare gift we have done.

DS goes to a licensed home daycare - MrsS is the primary (she watches 4 other kids)  and her husband MrC is her backup - he comes home for lunch everyday to help.  They have (4) kids of their own (older kids - in school all day).

Now DS just started going there around early October.  From what I've seen most people give an extra weeks pay (we pay $105 a week), would this still be appropriate?

TIA

Re: Gift for Daycare

  • I am giving DCP $25 gc to Target. I talked about this on my local board and everyone basically agreed 1 week is too much. They all said they basically did about $25-50 gc or small gift like a plant or gift basket.
  • We had the same discussion on our local board and most people seemed to think the value of the gift should equal 1 week's pay.  That seemed like a huge amount to me (we pay $225/wk) but since we take DS to a center, where there are 3 girls that work his room, I'm not giving anything near that much.

  • My mom does in-home daycare, and she's the only one running the show (its really small, 5 kids at the most.)  She usually gets gift cards (around $50 worth), gift baskets, keepsake ornaments, that kind of stuff.  She'd be thrilled though, for sure, to get an extra weeks pay - I think that's very generous.
  • I had troubles deciding what to do, also, and I ended up getting her a gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure. Figured it was a way for her to get some well deserved "me" time. I have yet to give to her so I don't know if she'll be thrilled or not...crossing fingers she is.
