It's Finally Friday!

So what's going on gals? Will your weekend be filled with shopping, baking, or just sleeping in?

Re: It's Finally Friday!

  • none of the above! well, maybe some sleeping in :)

Hanukkah starts tonight (Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate!!) so we're heading out of state to spend the weekend with my in laws. There will be lots of food, drink, conversation, and card playing - i cant wait!

  • Tonight: DW and I have a date to clean our house. What fun! The dog is shedding like crazy, the laundry is piling up, and our house is still in total disarray from moving furniture around for the window installation that never happen due to winter weather. (PS: The winter weather lasted until about 10am and then it ended up being a gorgeous sunny day! Would have been great for window installation Huh?)

Saturday: Our first iui is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Afterwards, we plan on coming home and relaxing while clearing out our DVR. I'm *so* excited to watch the last two episodes of Glee and Top Chef! I also need to finish up our Christmas cards. Later that night, we're having two friends over for dinner. I'm making lasagna roll-ups, salad and garlic bread.

Sunday: They are calling for another wintery mix on Sunday so we plan to spend the day baking, decorating and packing a bunch of Christmas cookies to mail out as gifts to friends and family. Later that night some other friends are coming over to help us eat the leftover cookies.

So, yeah....basically we are spending the entire weekend at home, which I couldn't be any happier about.

  • I'm off today (now working 4x10 M-R w/ Fridays off). I will be spending some of today making a grocery list and planning meals for the next week. And cleaning, and watching some mindless TV while working on the NY Times crossword. Yay for Fridays off. Tonight I'm meeting Jen and a friend to go pick up our packets for Sunday's race - I'm not doing it b/c I'm trying to be very kind to my knee until I see an ortho on Monday and he can help me figure out what is going on. But I already paid for it so I might as well go pick up my t-shirt and jingle bells. Then we're going to see a movie - probably Up In The Air.

No plans yet for Sat & Sun - Jen wants to see The Blind Side, and I want to go to Trader Joe's and buy a Christmas present for my sister. I'm pretty much done with everybody else since I'm not seeing a lot of my extended family this year (and therefore not buying gifts for them).

  • We have a yankee swap tomorrow at the ils.  I am very nervous about it so I have mixed feelings about it.  It is going to be a moderate crowd.  S's grandparents, aunt and uncle and her 2 cousins with their spouses and children plus Sue's siblings spouses and their children.  I am really stressed about this.  There will be an 11 month old and a 3 month old there.  I am going to wear Ella and not let people hold her.  I hope that people are not pissed about it but I don't really care if they are.  I wouldn't go but it is very important to S.  I am just going to have to do some yoga breathing and try not to flip out.  IF anyone is sick I am reserving the right to bail at anytime.  Would someone tell my dw, I am not looking forwrd to this conversation.

    What is a yankee swap?

I think DW will understand.  Especially since last time you ventured near sick family she was the one that got sick.  I hope it ends up being more fun than stress for you!

So jealous! I used to have this schedule and miss it so much! I can be much more productive in full 10 hours day than 8 hour days.  Yay for you :-)

  • I'm sure it will turn out to be fine, but right now I am feeling sad, grumpy and hormonal about our weekend.

C and I both took of Monday for our midwife appt and big u/s and planned to go to Target to set up our registry afterwards.  She was probably going to have to go into work a little over the weekend, but we were still going to have plenty of time together, and possibly get together with a friend. I was so looking forward to this because things have been crazy lately for C with work and her two grad classes that are wrapping up, and we've been losing out on a lot of time together.

Well... Now she has to work Saturday morning, from 10:00-?? on Sunday (she's been warned it could be a long day), AND she will probably have to go into work on Monday afternoon for a meeting. Crying

There goes registering at Target on Monday afternoon when it wouldn't be so crowded and we could actually enjoy ourselves.  There goes our fabulous 3 day weekend together that we've been looking forward to for a month.

Her whole work schedule for the weekend is still kind of up in the air, so cross your fingers for us that she won't have to spend too too much time in the office.  I know we'll make the best of it, and after next week her classes will be done and work will calm down a bit, but right now I am one pregnant hormonal crab about the whole thing. • Tonight we are finally going grocery shopping.  We have nothing appetizing left in the house so we're both very excited about this.  We also need to check out a carpet wholesale place so we can make a final decision on the new carpet.  If we get that done early I'll try to get the first coat of paint in the nursery done.

Saturday I'll spend the day making cookies for the annual upstate nestie holiday cookie exhange.  In between batches I hope to finish up the nursery painting.  I can't believe this project has stretched out a week - ugh.

Sunday I'm sleeping in :-p and then going to the nestie cookie exchange.  I think there will about 17 of us. I'm really looking forward to a few hours of friend time.  Then I'll head home to get K and we'll go out to dinner and then to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra.  My parents bought K tickets for Christmas, knowing how she loves rock music.

Oh and we still don't have a Christmas tree :-p  Maybe we'll get to that sometime this weekend too.

  • Brit - I'm sorry you're down.  It's totally understandable though! If C gets called into work all day can you pamper yourself at a spa for a bit?

  • Sleeping in mostly... but tomorrow is my baby shower, so that should be fun. I'm excited to see what my friend and mom have put together.

    Brit,
I'm sorry your weekend plans are getting all messed up. Hopefully things will turn out better then expected.

  • A yankee swap is where every one brings a gift and then you draw numbers and the person with the lowest number goes first.  The next person picks and opens their gift and decides to keep or swap.  The last person to go can take their pick from all the gifts.  Most of these have a smattering of gag gifts floating around.  In this case the there is an old man of the mountain plastic statue (a nh rock formation that fell down a few years ago) that comes back every year.  It is very tacky but funny esp. since we are in NH.  The sillier thing is it was given to my mil for a real gift by her boss.  There are all sorts of variations and rules for yankee swaps but that is the basic premise.  You never know what you are going to wind up with in the end.

  • Tonight, L is picking up the kids early from preschool and we are going to meet at the Gaylord Hotel to see the light display, the indoor snow, the choir, etc.  Supposedly it is awesome.

Tomorrow morning Gray is getting a haircut and I am getting a massage as a gift from L.  We're going to go get our tree and then hope the kids take a good nap. In the late afternoon we have a family party that one of the docs where I work is hosting at her home. I am hoping they will be as good as they were last year.

Sunday we need to drive across town to pick up Wii controllers I got on sale (nevermind I haven't purchased the Wii yet) and probably get breakfast at one of my fav breakfast places.  We'll come home to decorate the tree and I'll need to start working on Christmas cards if we get them in the mail today or tomorrow.

Mrs.F: That stinks. I hope it works out that C has more time off than expected.

Ah! Yes, I've participated in that type of gift swap.  In high school I went to one two years in a row and each year came home with a betta fish b/c I had learned the first year how the system worked. :-p

  • Brit-I am sorry, that is tough. I would be crabby too.

SSG-Do not feel badly at all. Wear her and run fast if anyone is ill. RSV is no laughing matter.

    Meegs-Have the best time ever!

    CT-Enjoy those latkes :-)

Tonight I will make latkes for Hanukkah. I think we will give the girls a gift tonight. They are getting spoiled rotten by my family and I think spreading out the gifts may be less overwhelming.

Tomorrow I have no idea what we are doing. I may bake. It's supposed to rain so we will play it by ear.

Sunday we will do a little Hanukkah celebration with my family. Our social worker is coming to the house on Tuesday so I will be quadruple checking that everything is perfect here.

  • Happy Hanukkah to C and D (and anyone else who celebrates)!  I'm jealous of your latkes... they sound so good...
