We're surprising my ILs next week and flying down to god's waiting room for their anniversary. I've been put in charge of booking dinner for Friday night. My MIL is unbelievably picky (read: she hates everything-- we took her to Jean Georges last year for her bday and she hated it), and I'm terrified of her making a scene-- not that I'm speaking from experience... oh, wait...
Thoughts on Chez Jean Pierre vs La Sirena?

Re: Angelfire
Gasp! That's what I call it, too! People on the west coast don't know what I'm talking about.

West Coaster here. No clue.
God's Waiting Room = Palm Beach, Boca, basically all of South Florida and the West Coast of Florida. Where all the retirees go before they...well--meet God.
Choo--I cannot believe she didn't like Jean Georges!! Well, let's see, Chez Jean Pierre is actually on the island of Palm Beach so it's more frou fi doo. I honestly and personally have never been impressed with the food there. La Sirena has fabulous Italian food but is actually in West Palm Beach so there's kind of a difference in 'feeling' there.
Have you considered L'Escalier's wine pairing menu at The Breakers? Ahh-mazing. Bice on Worth Avenue? Gnocchi to die for.
I passed on all those choices to the mister. He came back at me with those two choices. He's more like his mother than I would like to admit...
Oh, and my French MIL does not drink wine. I told you, she's in-sane.

Uh, of all the good restaurants to choose from there!!
Well, I would say food is better at La Sirena. 'Scene' is better at Chez Jean.
PS--I forgot about Daniel Boulud's restaurant in the Brazilian Court hotel!!?
I know! He prays at the Temple of Zagat and both Chez and Sirena got a 27 for food. He is SO predictable.
I love all the Daniel restaurants in NYC (2 are in my neighborhood - yum!), so I passed that info onto him.
Thanks for all your help! I wish that you still lived closed by so I could buy you a much needed/deserved glass of Pinot. Boo.
Btw- have you ever had Rochioli out of Sonoma County? Best. Pinot. Ever. Super hard to find (small vineyard, limited production, the White House buys out most of their cases), but I just might know someone who can get it for you...

Yes, definitely look into Cafe Boulud. I can't believe I forgot about it! I used to live right down the street and would walk and have cocktails in the lounge. Fab food. La Sirena is good, but if it were me, I would want to stay on the island, just to have the experience. The island just 'feels' different, you know what I mean.
That Pinot sounds fantastic! Thank you so much for the little-known secret:) I know, that sucks we won't be down there, it would be nice to meet in person!?
Reservation changed to Boulud - score!!! Thanks so much for the rec!
Another great Pinot is produced by Lynmar-- that is what we used for our wedding invites. One in particular (called Five Sisters) will blow your mind. If you ever see it on a menu, worth the money. I'm headed to Napa/Sonoma for an annual trip with Alex's co-workers in February, so I'll keep my palate open for you. I'm a total Pinot snob haha...

Boulud PB = sweet!!! Hope you all like it!!! (PS, it's in the Brazilian Court Hotel but it's actually on Australian and it's a one-way street (heading towards the ocean). I am sure you have the nav system, but it can be a bit confusing.
That Napa trip sounds so amazing. I heart wine country. And California in general. Lucky you! What does Alex do that you all get to take a work-related trip there??
Yeah, Sonoma is waaaay up on my list of fav places ever. I mean, what is not to like about waking up at 9 and spending the whole day drinking awesome wine?
A few years ago Alex's friend/co-worker opened a branch of the company in Silicon Valley (Alex briefly thought about doing a co-partnership, but his obsession with NYC won out in the end). Every year since his move, our group of friends within the company and their spouses head west to visit/support the new office and have a few "company" dinners where the boys talk "business." Basically, we drink. A lot. And the boys commiserate about the craziness that is NYC while the gals shop and continue drinking. It is pretty freaking hilarious.

Sounds so perfect...(minus the business talk part, lol!)
Lucky girl!!! Definitely keep me updated on great new finds please!!?
