NYE?

Do any of you have plans for NYE yet? (Besides you, Rose...I know where you're going. B!tch.) I'm trying to figure out what we are going to do, and I need inspiration.

Re: NYE?

  • Not yet. I'm going to stalk this thread for inspiration too though. We'll be out of town for Christmas and are coming home on NYE. We land at 10:08pm, so I have no idea how to ring in the New Year.
  • According to both of our jobs (we usually both work on Thrusday nights), we are going to a wedding, but that's a lie seeing as I sent my decline in quite a few weeks ago.

We know that we need to get away from the general Boston area so that we won't run into someone we know.

We might just get a hotel somewhere for the night and have a nice dinner.

  • The past couple of years we've gone to BFF's stepaunt/auncle's house. But I really don't want to do that. I really just want to find a swanky cocktail party so I can dress up in cute NYE dresses and sip champagne.

THIS. But preferably a swanky cocktail party in a warm location somewhere.

  • I have my stupid State exam for my CNA at 7:45am on the 31st. I'm going to go home and nap afterward. We might go over to our see friends that evening but we might just stay home that night too.

  • We were invited to a house party, but (this is going to sound awful) this couple does not throw the best parties and the idea of driving for an hour to get there and an hour to get home for a so-so party that will likely involve the guys playing video games while the girls drink and chit chat does not sound like an ideal sitch for me. I'm hoping we can repeat last year's plans, dinner and a band at decentish place with our best friends.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • The past few years we've hosted NYE parties. This year, another couple, who is not speaking to any of our other common friends, want to have a party. They plan to invite us and 2 single women. Can you say lame? We are both so stressed and busy right now that we don't even want to think about hosting, so we won't have a party, but I don't want to go to the couple's place either.

So we have no idea. We live just outside NYC and they have a fake ball drop down the street, so maybe we'll gather up some other people and go there. There is a tiny chance we'll go out in NYC with some other people if I get in touch with them. (But not to see the ball drop.) I'm so not ready for NYE yet!

  • I also need inspiration!  We host a big Christmas party every year, so I also usually host the New Year's party with all of the left over alcohol and some easy frozen snacks.  We have hats and noisemakers, I even have NY decorations.  But this year we will be at the ILs in the middle of nowhere, Colorado.  They go to bed early.  I'm sad.
  • We usually end up at some friends' house having apps and drinks.  Very casual though.  She has some crystal glasses that we use to toast every year and each couple gets a theme depending on what is going on in their lives.  (Last year we got love because of the wedding, another got health because of an illness, etc.)  DH wants to go to hear a certain band play but it would mean 4 days with the ILs instead of 2 1/2 so I'm pushing for our friends'.

I don't feel so bad now knowing I'm not the only one who doesn't want to go to a party they were invited to! I especially feel bad right now because that couple is coming to our Christmas party this weekend, but DH and I throw kickass parties with good food and good booze. I've kinda outgrown the byob (for big occasions, I mean) and food college student type parties. I'm mean.

  • I have no idea what we are doing... the last 2 years we really havent done anything, casual get togethers at a friends basically.  The 2 years before that we were at bowl games.  I want to go to the Orange Bowl but its not going to happen since its not until the 4th I think and we can't take that much time off work since we already have too many vacation plans next year.  I dont know what we are going to do instead though.  I want the swanky cocktail party as well but not sure if it will happen or not.

I have a friend who serves food out of the packages at parties.  As in, hummus in the tub, grapes in the box.  At least wash them and put them on a plate!  Sheesh!

I'd be so embarassed! I'm such a freaking Martha Stewart drone, though, I'd never even imagine doing this.

  • Well ladies, this NYE is my Golden Birthday!! Woohoo!! Turning 31 on the 31st!!! I hope it's a good one. Though it usually sucks because NYE usually sucks in general with all of the expectations and agendas going on.

My fave NYE to date would be when my brother and I flew from Palm Beach to NYC, hung out in NYC all day, ate in Little Italy, hit all the awesome hotel lounges, then partied at Marquee all night (my 27th birthday). We caught a cab at 4 a.m. and flew back to FL. I was on my porch in a bikini by 10 a.m. New Year's Day. It was one of my bucket list things and I'm glad we did it while I was young!

This year, my parents are coming up to babysit the kids. DH and I are just going to hang out in Charleston, eat at one of the amazing restaurants and hopefully shake our booties a bit.?

    ?

  • We'll be going to Vegas again. Last year we went to a party at the Hilton. It was okay I think the reason we had so much fun was because of the open bar.

  • I would love to be in Orlando for our bowl game, but I'm sure that's not going to happen. I miss my old NYE tradition, where at least 100 of our friends from camp would pack Bourbon street and celebrate there. Last year we set off fireworks with H's parents and little brother. This year I would like to do something a liiiiiiiiiittle more exciting.
  • We were invited to go to DH's friend's house for a NYE party even though they didn't know WE wouldn't be hosting our annual NYE party this year. UH...rude, much? Since this friend was the worst.bridesmaid.ever and I don't particularly trust her anymore, I think we'll just stay home to have a nice quiet first New Year's Eve together.

    This sounds amazing!!

Last year, Mike and I went to a fancy dinner that left us starving, then went straight to a taco shop, then cancelled the rest of our plans and went home because I got sick. We were in bed asleep by 9:30. We didn't even make it to midnight, east coast time. I'm determined to make this year better!

Thanks! I just hope our flight gets us home on time and we're not completely exhausted coming off the plane.

  • We always get together with our closest group of friends.  Last year we all cooked a huge, fancy dinner and it was fab.  We look forward to having a low key night and are going for a repeat of that this year!

  • We will be on a plane somewhere between Detroit and Tokyo on our way to Bali.  We leave at 7AM on 12/31 and don't get to Bali till 1/2 (DH's birthday).  We are heading right out to Komodo Island to see the dragons. 2 weeks with IL's, BIL & SIL. But at least it's in paradise!
  • I'm so not the partying type. The past two years, we've been on the couch at my parents' house, eating take-out Italian, and catching up on the entire season of House that's been sitting on my parents' TiVo. We turn on the TV to watch the ball drop and drink champagne, then go home around 1 am. I hope this will be the case again. Nice and low-key for us.
