Cost of living in VA Beach?
Hi Nesties! My FI and I are getting married in September, and I will be relocating soon after to be with him. I'm trying to look for apartments and the one I would like to rent is a bit expensive, but very nice. Does anyone have an idea of what the cost is of basic amenties down there? Cable, water, electricity (2 Bedroom apt), trash... ?
TIA!

Re: Cost of living in VA Beach?
Last apartment we lived in was right by the Chesapeake Bay, 2 bedroom, $1400/month plus utilities. Unless you're willing to live in a really crappy area, I agree with PP that you'll pay $1000+.
If you go to bankrate.com you can enter the city you're moving from and Virginia Beach to see what the difference in cost of living is going to be for you.
I moved here from MD a little over a yr. ago.
As for rent... it really depends on where you live. Hubby had a temporary apt. in a great location, right off VB Blvd. for $750 mth. for 2 bedroom. It was definitely not somewhere to live forever, but we never had problems. That said, it is a very generic apt. My friends had a 2 bedroom apt. on the border of Chesapeake and VA and they paid $1200 a month. Their apt. had the feel of a nice condo though. They bought a house after a yr. because financially, it was a better idea for them.
I reread your questions again... our electricity bill is MUCH MUCH MUCH less than it was with BGE. Our 2300 sq. foot house costs significantly less than our 1500 sq. house in MD did.
I don't think we pay anything for trash in VB (but I think Chesapeake and Norfolk do).
Cox cable down here is similar costs to Comcast there. Fios is available in some places.
Hi, I don't post over here but just did my own thread about VABeach apts.
The compex that we are getting reay to move out of has 2 bdrm apts (we are in a 3) that are $929, $939, and $949 a month. These are pretty nice apts and located right by the Pembroke Mall and the VABeach Town Center, Also not too much farther on VABeach Blv my friends are moving into a 2 bdrm in May for around $960 and it is VERY nice!
