Help with Word doc...yes I'm an idiot

Okay...i sent a doc to someone to proof and they sent it back with changes that are underlined and have dotted lines leading to "balloons" that tell me what they changed in the margins.  My doc is a million different colors and when I try and change the colors back to black and UN-underline them, it just adds another balloon.  I tried to "print preview" to see if this stuff would all show up, but it was all there, so I'm assuming it will be when I print it.

How do I make it GO AWAY?!

 THANK YOU!

Re: Help with Word doc...yes I'm an idiot

  • Sounds like "Track Changes" is on. You will need to accept or reject the changes.  Which version of Word are you using?
  • Of course that is the one version I don't have. Big Smile

But I'm pretty sure it should be here:
Tools / Track Changes / Accept or Reject Changes

  • okay...i think i figured it out...THANK YOU SO MUCH!  I've never "tracked changes" before obviously!  You saved my day!
  • No problem. The clerical staff here at work love this feature. I despise it, but since I have to support them, I have to use it.  Good luck!
  • if you are still there, i have one more question.  there is a line in the right margin...obviously gets bigger if i "return" and smaller if i close up the space..how do i turn that off?

  • That is part of track changes too. Once you have accepted or rejected all the changes, go to Tools / Track Changes / Highlight Changes, and uncheck everything. That will turn it off and that line should go away.
  • Ah...gotcha.  There are a couple places that I can't seem to figure out what the "issue" is, but I am just going to say forget it!  I've checked spelling, punctuation, grammar.  I give up.  Most of them are gone and my doc looks semi-normal.  Thanks again so much!
  • You can also click "accept all changes" and all of the lines will go away.
  • Also, you cannot accept the changes and still print it without the lines.  On the track changes tool bar you can use the pull down and it will say something like final with markup, final, and some other choices.  Choose the one that says final without markup to print.
