foundation (make-up, not house) recs

What foundation do you love?  I've been using Everyday Minerals for a while now, which I really like, but I want to get a liquid foundation to put in my rotation I think.  Something that blends really well and doesn't look like makeup but has a flawless finish.  Bonus points if it's available at Neiman's.  :)  Also, I generally have combination skin... oily t-zone, drier cheeks.

Re: foundation (make-up, not house) recs

  • I have a Clinique one that I love right now. It is a liquid, but I can't remember what it is called...sorry that isn't overly helpful. I also have combination skin.
  • I use MAC Studio Sculpt, and I loooove it.  I have combination skin, too, but with the extra bonus of having sensitive skin, and I haven't had any issues with that foundation.  Another thing I like about it:  it's gel based, so I can use a pea-sized dollop spread on with a foundation brush and get medium coverage without feeling like I'm wearing a mask of make-up.

I've also heard good things about MAC Studio Fix, but I've never tried it personally.

  • I have similar skin to you and I LOVE Mary Kay's tinted moisturizer.  It's extremely light but you still get coverage.  I don't even feel like I'm wearing makeup.

I also like the Perscriptive tinted moisturizer.  I hate real foundation.

  • This is the best I've ever used and the best match to my skin color I've ever had.

  • While I'm a huge MK fan (as you know), I also love Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer and the foundations (the primer is amazing too!), and MAC Studio FX as someone else mentioned.

Your challenge is going to be finding something that has an olive-y or slightly yellower undertone to it, given your skin tone.  It's the same problem I have unfortunately, and it's VERY hard to match since a lot of foundations have too much pink to them.  MAC is pretty good about offering more shade varieties.

The color matching is always my problem too.  My skin tone is more of a yellow/orange.  The perscriptives is great because they specifically have colors for your color tone.  I'm Champange 04 and love that that's all I need to know.

Didn't I read that they're not going to make Prescriptives after the end of this year?

Well damn it.  There's a kick in the ass.  I guess I better go buy what I can!

  • I have been using MK creme-to-powder (from CollieJade) and it's great. A little goes a long way for me. I also got a sample from Laura Mercier- their oil-free foundation- and it's a nice liquid.

I went ahead and got the prescriptives for now since I knew my shade and knew this might be the last time I could get it. I got the very last one in my shade. But I'm definitely going to try out some of the other suggestions as well. Thank you!!
