Does anyone know if Canada requires you to provide a passport when driving in now? I know the law changed 6/1/09 about air travel, but I thought everyone had told me so long as we can provide a birth certificate and a US ID, it was OK. Now that I'm about to book a hotel room, I'm nervous.
B and I are planning on a Montreal trip for New Years, but his passport expired. He got it renewed late this week, but that obviously won't be in in time for the 31st. FML.
Any knowledge would be amazing! TIA!
I'm friends with everybody in this office. We're all best friends - I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late, and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments. And that's when it is nice to let them know that you can beat them up.

Renewal is already in process, so I doubt we could change it now, sadly
All is not necessarily lost. I do believe you can get it expedited still if necessary. Go here: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/processing/processing_1740.html
And follow the instructions on the part: if you are traveling within 14 days. DH had problems getting his before the honeymoon (first app was rejected), but he talked with them and they helped him get it in time.

Negative. The law changed June 1st of this year to require one. Before, to drive in, all I've ever needed was my birth certificate and license.
Thanks Leigha, I'm going to look into this. B doesn't want to pay an arm and a leg to get it expedited, but damnit, I want to go to Canada haha! I appreciate the help!
