What kind of cheese

What kind of cheese would you choose for a cheese and cracker platter?

I'm not a cheese eater myself, so I don't really know what would be good choices. I'd like to offer three varieties.

Thanks.

Re: What kind of cheese

  • I usually do some assortment of:

    cheddar

    pepper jack

brie or a goat cheese (something creamier)

    jarlsburg (similar to a swiss)

manchego (a Spanish cheese... goats milk I think, but texture of parmesan)

If I want better variety, I do a cheaper cheddar / pepper jack and then a couple of the other ones.

  • I agree.  I would definitely stay away from American, mozzerella, and really really sharp white Cheddar.  Cream cheese always seems to be a hit as well :)
  • gouda, danish blue, manchego, muenster

If you're doing a bleu, go for the good stuff.  Gorgonzola, Stilton, or Roquefort.

I like a sharp cheddar, an herbed goat cheese, manchengo, St. Andre or Chaumes in addition to the bleus listed above.

  • I always do a nice English or Irish cheddar, a bleu, and a brie.

  • Thank you : )
  • Boursin is da bomb.
  • If you want to add something seasonal, there are some great cheeses with cranberries already in them right now.  Trader Joe's also has this amazing goat cheese log with cranberries all over the outside.  Plus it is only $3.99!  The goat cheese along would be more than that at my normal grocery store.  I served it at a birthday party for a friend last weekend and it was gone in 20 min.  Already bought another for my holiday party on Friday!
