I really need opinion on mp3 player....
Heres the scoop:
I bought DH a philips mp3 player last year for Christmas... He LOVED it, used it everyday for his commute and even at work. Well it died a month ago... I hate to give a christmas gift thats simply replacing a broken gift... but I know he wants another one.. so here is my dilemma.
About 3 weeks ago I bought a sony walkman 8gb mp3 player for 70 bucks. I heared that the sonys had a better sound quality then the ipods (cnet reviews), and they are much more reasonably priced. However yesterday my work gave me a gift card to meijer for 110.00 dollars. I can't think of anything else to get hubs, so I was considering returning his mp3 player and buying him an ipod nano or using it towards an ipod touch. I'm just not sure what to do. I mean are the ipods really worth the extra money??? I think the touch is a little gimmicky and I'm worried he won't be able to safely use it while driving...kwim? But at the same time I want to get him something NICER then the mp3 player that broke...and if I have that extra money in gift card form I could return the other one and get a real discount at meijer...

If he's uses his MP3 for just music then the Ipod isn't necessary and definitely not worth the money. I don't like that you have to buy from Itunes specifically for the Ipods.
If he's only going to be using his MP3 for music then the Sony would be just fine. I'm sure it's fine. Has he mentioned wanted in Ipod? I have a Sansa Fuze. I love it and it's so easy to transfer music and make playlists, but I don't need all the functions of an Ipod either.
You don't have to purchase soley from itunes for an ipod. I have stopped purchasing from itunes and only purchase from amazon for my music.
If he is happy NOT having an ipod then get him a really nice mp3 player with the gift card. Consider getting one with a bigger memory and better features than the Sony you already purchased. You can probably get a better mp3 player for the money that way anyway.
