Planning a party...Help Pls

Hello,

I'm planning a retirement party for my uncle that has retired from the Post Office, and is also an army vet.  The only thing that goes with the post office theme that I can think of are mailboxes, and of course the colors.  I've seached high and low, and can't really find any mini mailboxes to use as centerpieces.  Does anyone know where I can find some?  Any other ideas of what I could use?

TIA!

Re: Planning a party...Help Pls

  • I thought of small boxes you can buy at the Post Office (for shipping)...you could add your own messages and/ or even ask each table to write notes on it for your uncle to read later.  (just provide markers at each table)

  • Going off pp's idea...  You could pick up the free priority boxes and use them for floral arrangements.  Make the arrangements in some cheap container, then slip the container into the box.
  • Ha! Didn't even think about that! Thanks, I'll stop by the PO this week to see what I can find.  Thanks again!
  • I think technically it's illegal to use those boxes for anytthing but shipping. If it was an ordinary crowd, I think it's a fun idea. But if you have some party poopers or snitches, may want to google and see if this is true.

  • If you can't use the boxes, what about taking stamps and decoupaging (sp?) them onto a cheap glass/plastic vase.  Then you could use the vases for flowers or floating candles or something and they'd have stamps all over them.  You could just take used stamps (cut off mail you get and grab some from friends as well).  With all the christmas cards right now you could get quite a few I'm sure!  You could do the same thing to other items like picture frames or something like that.  I think it would look cute!

I was thinking stamps too!  Invites could be made to look like a special stamp.

  • It is true. You can't use the boxes for anythign else other than priority shipping. If you order the boxes from usps.com (they are free and will ship for free), just prop open, tape to seal and stack with ribbon etc. Once you are done, slice open the seams with scissors and re-use the boxes for a future shipment.

Sounds like a fun idea. My dad is about to retire from the USPS and this party theme would be perfect.
