South Beach trip

I am planning a weekend trip to South Beach for the first weekend in March and was hoping to get some feedback and tips.  What is the weather like at that time?  Is it good beach weather to spend days at the beach or pool?  I looked it up online and it says an average of 81 for the high and 61 for the low.  Being from New York, I don't know exactly how those temps would be in Florida!  Also I am looking into staying at Sheraton/Westin property.  Does anyone have any recommendations about which is the best one?  I want to be near Collins Ave and the heart of South Beach.  Any other tips, must sees/dos, or things to avoid, please share!  Thank you!

Re: South Beach trip

  • Those temps seem about right.  Assuming they are accurate (and we dont' have a freak cold front), it should be find for sunbathing... water too cold for my liking, but people do enjoy swimming then (ie spring break).

Not familiar with any hotels from that resort.  I would def stay somewhere on Collins, perferably between 13 St and 20 St (a lot more action).  Further south is more of a clubbing scene, but easily accessible via taxi.  Lincohn Road is a pedestrian street on 17 St  and is awesome!  It is full of shops, bars, restaurants, and even some clubs.  Fun people watching.  : )

  • Some things to consider.  Many of the hotels in the region charge exorbitant parking fees ($20-35/day) and then resort fees on top of that.  So check those out to make sure they are still in your budget.  If you stay near a public parking garage you can park there for I think $16/day.  You will probably want to be in walking distance to Lincoln Rd.  So the PP info is really helpful.  Check tripadvisor for reviews.  I have found that they are pretty spot on for South Beach.  Many of the 3-4 star hotels can be hit or miss.  As for avoidace: I would avoid staying near Biscayne Bay.  Have a fun stay!
