Anyone heard of the Diva Cup?

For all you "green" gals, I just came across this yesterday and was totally blown away. It's one of those inventions that's so simple in idea, yet probably really effective.

www.divacup.com

It's an organic way to have your AF every month. Anyone ever use it? Please share... I'm so intrigued.

I read that it's best for use with light to medium flow. But you can still use it when your period is heavy, you just have to empty it more often.

I, for one, live in an idealistic world and think tampons and any menstrual items should be free. Hey, it's not like we asked to have a period every month!!

Re: Anyone heard of the Diva Cup?

  • There was a discussion about this here about a month ago.

If I remember correctly the general consensus was that the concept was great however just too gross to deal with. I dont recall anyone who had actually used it though. It has been around for a while, or at least the concept has. Years ago there was another product that was the same thing. Can't remember what it was called.

  • I've never used the Diva Cup, but a few years back I tried something just like it. I think it was called Instead? Anyway, it was very gross. I think maybe it just depends on how well you deal with blood. I would never even attempt using it again, but I think if it interests you you should try it. I guess it would be more "green" then a tampon. But im not sure how because eventually you have to throw it away. I don't think it's even recommended that you use it more than once. But its been years so I may be wrong!
  • I would ask on the S&R board - I've seen a few ladies over there that use it, and they're usually very candid  Smile
  • They just had a two page discussion on topic on the Money Matters board. You should go over there and check it out. There was a lot of info and quite a few girls use them.?

I am in the camp of in theory I want to like this item very badly, but I don't want to spend $40.00 to try it and find out I hate it. The Diva Cup you do not throw away every month. You sterlize it by boiling it in water for 20 minutes then you can use it again just fine the next month. That's part of the reason why it is seen as a green pridcut because there is a lot less waste. Also as mnay of the girls on the money matters boad says in the long run it can save you a lot of money because you aren't buying tampons every month.?

The Diva Cup website has a great amount of information with a great section of FAQs. If it wasn't $40.00ish to buy one I might try it but I can't just sink that into something I don't know for sure if I am going to be able to handle. The girls on money matters said if you can handle the ob tampons then you can most likely handle the Diva Cup so I think next month I am going to start there.?

    HTH!
  • Oh no!! please dont put me through the gross-ness again!!!

  • It's sorta like the family towel.  Would never use it.
  • It has its pros and cons. A lot of the girls on the Money amtters board made a good point about how tampons took a long time to catch on. I think I would rather use the Diva Cup then the Luna Pads which are cloth pads.... that you wash in the washer... I don't think I could get that far.?

I guess the same arguement holds for disposable diapers vs cloth ones.?
  • There are a couple sellers on Etsy that do the washable liners, etc. For some reason I'd prefer that to the Diva Cup. I still haven't gotten there yet to actually try some though.
  • I had never heard of it until now. I'm not sure if I would be up for trying that.

I couldn't agree with you more! These things should totally be free and not $7.00 a box! Every month, I think of how much better that $7.00 could be used :(

  • I haven't read up on it, but I think I get the general idea from the name....and that sounds gross....very, very gross. It's bad enough to deal with it using a tampon!
  • read this F/U on the MM board for a good laugh: http://tinyurl.com/5w49ss
