Re: How was your weekend?
The iui seemed to go really well! I'm pretty sure our timing was spot on and the dr. commented about my wide open cervix and ewcm. We shall see. Testing will happen just after Christmas. Obviously, a bfp would be the best Christmas gift of all!
I love, love, love our re. She ended up opening the office and doing the iui outside of normal office hours to help us target the exact point in my fertile window that we were hoping to inseminate. I really want to find some way to thank her for this. Personal time during the weekend is sacred to me and I can't believe she was kind enough to share some of that time with us.
Yes!
CT: How was Hanukkah and traveling to visit familiy?
Up In The Air was great. Just a really thoughtful, enjoyable movie. Don't go see it if you have recently lost a job though - the main characters lay people off for a living (they are "transition specialists"), and some of those scenes are really sad. I didn't end up seeing The Blind Side - Jen saw it on Saturday with a friend of hers, and they both loved it. I went to see Fantastic Mr. Fox instead with one of my friends, and I absolutely loved it. It was my favorite movie of 2009, and I'm hoping I can convince my family to all see it together over Christmas b/c it's the kind of movie that anyone/everyone would enjoy.
Otherwise the weekend was only OK. Jen ran 20 miles on Saturday but I am still not able to run b/c of my knee (I have an orthopedist appt today), and it's bumming me out. Then we had a scare with Pippin yesterday - we woke up to bloody stool and vomit all over the place, and she was pretty weak and dehydrated. We took her to the animal ER and they rehydrated her and gave her some medicine to calm her stomach, and she's fine now. She's just such a wee little thing, you just feel horrible when she's under the weather. (DC peeps, we went to SouthPaws and they were GREAT. Very very friendly, we didn't have to wait at all, and they recommended the least invasive and least expensive course of treatment - unlike our experience at Friendship. And it's just a cozy, nice place - the nurse got down on the carpeted floor with Pippin and didn't make her stand on the cold metal table (it scares her) and there were just a lot of nice little touches like that.)
CT the party was fun and I was much less anxious than the last few times. Ella did really well and except for totally barfing on her great aunt and a little bit of overstimulation for a little bit she did fine. It was really loud during the yankee swap and so I had to bring her upstairs for a little while, she hasn't been in a room with that many people since her nicu days. The other babies were healthy and my mil and sil played interference for me so that people kept their paws off. All in all a nice visit and I got a set ouf really nice cookie cutters in the swap! Oh and S's cousin's baby who I was afraid would be compared to E was so tiny. My 30 week preemie looked huge and downright chunky next to her! Clara was born the day E came home from the hospital and at that point they were almost the exact same weight. Now E is well over 12 lbs and C is just 9lbs. I would think she may be failure to thrive she was that skinny. I hope she starts packing on the pounds soon as she really needs to get going.
Sunday my parents came over to watch the game and have lunch. That was nice. Ella was a little off all day due to Sats crazy schedule so she was up until midnight last night! S and E are now taking a nap since she was up pretty early this morning. Why don't babies sleep late when they stay up late??? It only seems fair!
thats awesome! glad it went so well!
Hanukkah was...a rollercoaster. Friday after work we raced to get the car and dog packed up to pick up Andrea's grandmother and head to Boston. When we got out of the car at A's Bubby's house, we could hear the air escaping from one of my tires. i got a big 'ole flat. Since it was evening and repair shops were closing, we ended up driving around to three different stores (dog, bubby, and luggage in tow) before we found a shop to put a new tire on. it was freezing cold and I had to stand outside b/c i couldnt take the dog in. so, that night sucked. and we didnt get to boston until midnightish.
Saturday I had a great time visiting family. Company and food was fantastic. AND i got a big promotion in the world....I was entrusted to make the second batch of the latkes!! this is big
But, I also recieved a phone call from my parents informing me that my uncle had passed away friday evening (he's been living with HIV/AIDS for many years and has been quite sick) AND that they had to put down our family dog who's been in with us for 10+ years
Sunday I was feeling emotionally drained so in the evening we went to the movies. Andrea's been wanting to see Precious and it was at a good time so we went. What a terrible idea. the movie is wonderfully done - but, on top of such an emotional weekend it was too much. i was scarred and ended up tossing and turning all night.

no kidding! i dont know what rock i've been living under, but i really had no idea what the movie was about. just that everyone was raving about it...

CT: What a weekend! So sorry to hear about your uncle and the family dog. I hope your week is mellow and full of lots of time to relax.
E - I am sorry to hear about your uncle and your dog.
Yea, we are kinda crazy with the amount of stuff we do. And even with when we plan to stay in all day (ie. Sunday) somehow we end up out of the house most of the day.
Friday - We took the kids to the Gaylord hotel to see the Christmas decorations/show. The kids loved riding the glass elevator to the 18th floor, seeing the dancing water show (and getting soaking wet), seeing it snow in the lobby, and hunting for big stuffed Peeps throughout the hotel. We didn't stay for the Christmas choir since we were all tired and hungry.
Saturday - We went to the gym where Gray got a haircut, I got a massage, the kids played in childcare, L worked out, and the kids got a picture with Santa. Yes, all at our gym.
We went to lunch and then home for a nap. Afterwards we went to a holiday party hosted by one of the docs I work with. The kids were really good and had a great time playing with the other kids. We stopped on the way home and picked up our Christmas tree.
Sunday - It was a cold, rainy, miserable mess. 4 degrees colder and it would have been a beautiful winter day. I ran to Target when they opened to get a Wii (got a $30 gift card with it) and then we got the decorations out. Carter was in heaven and deemed our living room his workshop and that we call him "Santa" (he was calling us "Elf Mommy.")
We went to run errands, Carter fell asleep so I held him throughout lunch, and then we dropped Gray and L off for a nap while Carter and I drove across town to pick up some Wii-motes that I had on hold. Came home to finish the tree (it is HUGE.) L stayed up to work and I passed out half way through Oprah's interview with the Pres.
I can't believe Christmas is in less than 2 weeks. OY.
CT: what a weekend.
My weekend was OK. I worked at a fundraiser for my team all day Sat, bailed on a holiday party that night and came home to watch bad Netflix instead (Make the Yuletide Gay, anyone?)
Friday and yesterday I mostly surfed the internet, er, worked on my proposal for my seminar class. We also spent 2 hrs daydreaming in Ikea and REI Sunday
CT, I'm so sorry about your uncle and your dog...and that you had such an ill-timed viewing of Precious.
This weekend was a mix of activity and guilty relaxation. I flew home from Boston Friday night and it took 2.5 hours to get home on the super shuttle (we live 30 mins away). Arrgh. We were supposed to go out to dinner, but I got home too late, so we watched netflix.
Saturday: I went to a friend's holiday party, only to discover I was a week early. Oops. We went gift shopping and I made candy for the first time, with limited success.
Sunday: We went to a friend's birthday party and had mediocre Thai food and delicious drinks. We were introduced to chucky cheese's chocolate cake, and while I was very skeptical, it was actually kind of yummy...in a scary way. We were going to do some gardening, but the weather was so ugly we decided to stay home and watch Torchwood.
E - I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle and dog. ((hugs))
My weekend was alright. Friday I started feeling as though I was going to get the cold that K and everyone in my office had. Sure enough I woke up Saturday with a sore throat. We managed to get the color on the nursery walls and then run a few errands.
Because one of the other Upstate nesties got sick she wasn't able to bring her much anticipated oreo cookie truffles to the cookie exchange. So Saturday night K and I made up the yummy treats.
Sunday I went to a very nice cookie exchange with about 14 local nesties. Most have been my good friends IRL so as always it was nice catching up. After that K and I went to see the Transiberian Orchestra. It was a great concert! And it was fun thinking that everytime the baby moved it was reacting to the music (although 9-11pm is normally its active time).
I'm still not feeling great today but I've got an event tomorrow night so I need to be here at work. :-p
CT- I am so sorry to hear about your uncle and family dog. ((HUGS))
Our weekend was nice.
Friday we gave the girls each a gift for the first night of Hanukkah and they were a hit. In fact, they are fighting over one toy right now. FUN! LMC loved the candles too.
Saturday we stayed in, it was pouring!
Sunday we went to my cousins house for Hanukkah. The latkes were all gobbled up and the girls had the best time running around a new house. They gots lots of love and attention plus got to pet dogs and a bird that talks.
I'm glad that the party was good and there were none of the problems you were worried about.
I am so so sorry about your Uncle. And about your pup. I'm sure the second was a lot to bear on top of the first. :-(
Pictures?

Our weekend was good. Friday night Trav surprised me by suggesting we go out and buy a tree! I've been pushing for this for a number of years, and I'm so excited that he finally felt ready to do that.
Saturday was my baby shower and it was wonderful. Lots of friends and fam that I hadn't gotten to see for a bit, tons of good food, and we were so blessed with lots of great things. The invites apparently asked people to bring a book instead of a card (and sign a little message in the front cover), so on top of all the great clothes and baby items we also got a bunch of great books. Good Night Moon, Guess how much I love You, Olivia, Ferdinand, Lamont the Lonely Monster, etc. We also got (I think) all of our big items: pack'n'play, stroller, car seat, high chair, etc. It was really great, and I felt so blessed!!
Sunday we were lazy and just sorted through our baby shower gifts, and I did about half the thank yous. Tonight I have my 30 week appointment, but I'm hoping to get the rest of the thank yous done.
ETA: Oh, and pictures to follow... but I have to wait for people to send them to me!

CT - So sorry to hear about your uncle and family dog. That's plenty enough to deal with in one weekend without the running around the flat tire! But congrats on being entrusted with the latkes by the inlaws!
Well C ended up having to work all day on Saturday and Sunday. The thing that made it harder is that we only have one car (when I stopped nannying, we sold the car I had purchased for the job), which C needed to get work in. There is public transit nearby, but it isn't very convenient on the weekends - just to get to a mall (and I have my pick of a few within about 15 miles), would take almost an hour and more than one bus/train. So unless I wanted to spend a lot of time/energy traveling out in the cold, I was pretty much homebound. I got some gift wrapping and housework done while I had the house to myself, and a friend did come by on Saturday to keep me company for a bit (we watched Elf, one of my favorite things to do around xmas). Sunday I mostly just lounged around. C and I did sneak in one quick mall trip on Sunday evening - didn't accomplish too much, but it was a relief to just check one thing off the list. Then we came and snuggled and watched a movie - it was so wonderful to just relax together after the last few weeks we've had!
Luckily, our weekend continued today - C did not have to go into the office at all! Woo hoo! So we went to the midwife and ultrasound, which was great! We got some amazing pictures of our baby BOY! He's measuring right on track and everything looks healthy and perfect and beautiful. Afterwards we got some more xmas shopping taken care of and the grocery shopping. So while the actualy Sat/Sun weekend wasn't the best - we're ending it on a good note

CT - so sorry to hear about your uncle and about your family dog. Those are such difficult losses in such different ways. Sending you warm support across the miles.
We thought about seeing Precious too until I read a more in-depth review. I am sorry it was so difficult. Sending more warm support. Hang in there!
