Pancakes from scratch or box?

I'm making pancakes for my office on Thursday.  Should I make them from scratch or the box.  We usually just use Aunt Jemimma or something - I think they taste good (we add vanilla extract and a few extra touches).

Thoughts?

  • I'd definitely take a boxed route and season it up with your little touches.

Thanks - my other thought is that now is not the time to experiment - ya know?

Yes, yes, and yes. I learned that the hard way.

  • It's honestly nearly the same effort either way, but scratch is probably cheaper?  I've never figured it out.

I use the recipe from the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook from circa 1968 and it's fine.  I'm sure the same recipe is still used--really basic.

    Mix is fine too though.

  • I have no problems with boxed mixes, but pancake batter is so easy I usually make it from scratch.
  • I was going to say from scratch, but how big is your office? If it's a big crowd, I'd be tempted to go for the box.

Making a mix from scratch is easy-peasy, though...

Actually, the newer cookbook recipes are different than the older ones. The new version is crap for pancake batter. The new version is crap for a lot of things, now that I mention it. Whatever you do don't lose that 1968 version.. it's gold! Yes

  • I like the Bisquick pancakes!
  • I prefer boxed (I know, the horror!) - specifically Bisquick. But when I've made from scratch, they're not worth the extra work, and they're never as fluffy. It's one thing if they tasted better, but they don't. I agree with PPs who said your recipe with the personal touches.
