Pregnancy and phlegm??

I have a HORRIBLE phlegm problem with this pregnancy.  It is like stuck in my throat and gags me, making me throw up (it's different from ms throwing up).  I used to get this intermittently prior to being pg and using Mucinex or an Expectorant would help.  At my intake appt. I asked about this and the nurse simply said, "push the fluids".  It's really bad girls.  I feel like I need to clear my throat and make those gross noises all damn day to keep from gagging.  Pushing fluids isn't helping.  Anyone else have this problem?  Any ideas how to tame it?

Re: Pregnancy and phlegm??

  • i have the same problem (at 8 months along even). I did not have morning sickness at all, just phlegm sickness, LoL! There was nothing I could do to tame it.  I just had to deal with it.  I still loose my meals over it.  I wish i had an answer for you, but I dont :-(.  If you come up with one quickly though, PLEASE PLEASE let me know.

  • Ugh, I'm glad you understand.  What a pain, huh?  Lifting my chin up makes it worse, so I can hardly kiss my husband anymore (he's 6 inches taller) without running to the toilet to throw up because I start gagging.  It keeps happening in the shower, too, when lifting my chin up to wash my hair and face.  Then I toss my cookies in the shower.  Good times.
  • my biggest problem is when I have to hold my mouth open, or hold my breath.  Like brushing my teeth, chewing, and even swallowing,  I feel like there is something "there" and the food cant go down, so then i start coughing ( i sound like i've been smoking for 30 years even though i have never once smoked in my life) and up comes EVERYHING.  It's no wonder i've gained 2lbs in 34 weeks, ha-ha!

  • I was going to joke and say, "That's hot."  But this is even too gross for that.  YUCK!  I wish I had some advice, but I don't.  In theatre, if we had phlegm before a show, we sucked on a lemon.  It's worth a try...?

  • dude I am so going to start calling you hack and spittle!  It's JB's nickname for me when my allergies get so bad that the same thing happens to me.
  • Ummm ... when did you announce your are pregnant?!??!?!?!  Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Oh and btw ... I had a massive phlegm issue towards the end of my pregnancy, it was one of the reasons for my insomnia and snoring.  =(
