First GTG at our house

I have been married for a year, and this is the first time I am inviting all my friends over to our house for a GTG.

Do you have any appetizer recipes that are simple and I can make ahead of time.  Please share!  :)

Re: First GTG at our house

  • cheese and crackers, spinach artichoke dip in sourdough bread bowls, wings, meatballs, mini quiche, stuffed jalapeno peppers, bacon wrapped water chestnuts, fruit and cheese skewers w/ some sort of sauce

You might be able to find something in there.  Almost everything can be made, to some degree, in advance.

  • Thank you ladies!!
  • sorry, not sure why it posted this before finishing.

I will check out that website.

Got some good ideas from your list... I didn't think about the fruit and cheese skewers... I will do something similar

  • Also, a great finger-food in the dessert area is cream puffs (costco or Sam's).  Just let them thaw, and they are delicious!  Dip them in melted chocolate to make little eclairs :)

  • Buffalo chicken wing dips & tortillia "scoops" go over well in my family & our friends' circle.  Also a cracker, cheese, & fruit platter is always great too - just do a variety of crackers & cheese.  A super easy though it's a quick last min. thing that is well liked is: sliced French sourdough bread topped w/ ricotta cheese & diced tomatoes & parsely -- pop in the broiler & let the cheese "melt" some --- awesome!!

  • Here are two really simple appetizer recipes. I've made both for large group get-togethers and they go fast! Thought I would give you both a hot and a cold option. Also, they can be made ahead of time.

    Feta Cheese Ball:

2 pkgs (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened

    1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

    1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

2 tsp. from envelope of ranch salad dressing mix

1/4 cup crumbled cooked bacon (or real bacon bits)

    Assorted crackers or bagel chips

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Add feta & ranch, mix well. Shape into ball, roll in remaining ingredients. Refrigerate at least 1 hour to firm.

    Hot Pizza Dip:

1 pkg (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

3 tsp. from envelope of ranch powder mix

1 jar (8 oz) pizza sauce

1 bag (2 cups) cheddar cheese, shredded

sliced French bauette or tortilla chips

Mix softened cream cheese with ranch and spread in greased pan. Top with pizza sauce, then cheese. Can be prepared in advance. When ready to serve, pop in oven until cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
