I know this gets asked every year - who do you give to/not give to?
1. Housecleaner
2. Mail carrier
3. Sanitation person
4. Lawn care/gardener person
I don't give to any of the above (no housecleaner)
Re: I know this gets asked every year - who do you give to/not give to?
1. $75
2. Seriously? Nothing.
3. WTF is a sanitation person?
4. We don't have one.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
No one. We don't have a housecleaner.
I don't get tipping the mail carrier. Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't they decently well-paid and receive good benefits? It's hard work, but so are a lot of jobs.
The reason I'm asking is bc I see it on MM that people tip these people at Christmas. And I didn't grow up doing it and I'm pretty surprised that it's so common. I must have lived under a rock.

My dad was a mail carrier and always recieved lots of tips and goodies for Christmas. He appreciated them VERY much.
My dad always left them a bottle of tequila or a 12-pack of beer.
no one tips me for doing my job.
xoxo,
scrooge
Re: sanitation person... I totally thought you meant the person who does brazillian waxes. Never would have guessed trash guy...
Answer: Nothing.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
But we get at least 2 or 3 different ones every week. Is that a new thing?
I didn't either, don't feel bad. LOL.
I don't know.
My dad had the same route and saw the same people every day for years and years. Getting gifts and cards from them every year was a real treat for him.
I think because of his job, I grew up in a household where we did get tips/gifts for these servicepeople every year. Usually it was something like what I said earlier...a bottle of tequila or a 12-pack of beer. But just a little something to show our appreciation for good service throughout the year.
It's way more appreciated by these guys than your bratty cousins, KWIM?
Non of the above.
We don't have a housecleaner or gardener. If I did, we'd prolly tip. I've never seen the same mail man deliver my mail when I've been home. Always someone different, that I know of. And I've never actually met the garbage men.
YL - I don't think I've met our mail carrier, but I've seen them. I'm feeling generous this year so maybe I'll pick up some McD's GC's. Everyone goes to McD's!
I don't. But if I did get a gc to McD's I'd prolly regift it to someone who does.
Growing up we always gave to everyone. My Dad was extremely generous. I remember chocolates for everyone....mail man, anyone he would have helping around the house/yard, teller at the bank, man who pumped our gas, barber, etc... I think I totalled one year in high school and in was hundred's of pounds of chocolates for the year. (It had evolved into chocolates since he was getting a bulk deal with a local chocolate factory)
Of course a lot of this is probably because we lived in a small town and had known these people forever. It's one of the things I don't like about living far away from home. Hence why I probably send 200 Christmas cards and bake over 40 hours (to give pretty much give it all away)
Joy - I can totally see how it might be different in a smaller town where people actually know each other and have personal relationships with their key service people. Here in OC - not so much.
Great question - I will have to read what the others posted, but this is what I plan for this year.
1. Housecleaner - Most likely $100, plus chocolates (she is close to us)
2. Mail carrier - Sorry, but nothing
3. Sanitation person - Same as above
4. Lawn care/gardener person - $25.
Now I am curious to read what others posted. I hope I am not being to cheap......
::snort::
1. Don't have one anymore but when I did usually $75-100 or one year she asked for a kitten from the litter I was fostering so I "gifted" the kitten + a Petsmart g/c.
2. I bake cookies usually for them...
3. Nothing.
4. Our landscapers are paid for with our rent and they suck (rarely show up as scheduled, do a half-assed job but they're related to our landlord so they get to keep their job) so nothing.

Well the only one that would appy to me would be our mail man but I am not tipping him. [insert scrooge here] He's broken and ruined things I've ordered on line or important documents that were delivered because of the way the man has stuffed main into our box.
But I am also considering attracting bees with honey and maybe we should tip him - that way maybe next time he won't break and ruin our documents and delivered stuff. :P
I dunno. I'm on the fence.
I just remembered the newspaper delivery guy left us some kind of note basically insinuating we should leave him a tip for christmas.
yeah, FRO.
My mom got that too. I have no idea if she's actually going to tip.
