Do you have a pearl necklace?

DH helped one of his frat alumni get a passport in a hurry. This guy said he would take us out to dinner after his month long trip to Europe as a thank you. Instead, he met up with H last week and gave him an 18-inch pearl necklace for me.

It's so pretty... and really heavy! I don't know when I would even wear it, but it's gorgeous.

My question: are there any special care instructions for it? For now it's just in my jewlry box... with all of the other jewlry I have & don't wear, lol.

Re: Do you have a pearl necklace?

  • Technically you're supposed to put it in a soft cloth wrapping so it doesn't get dinged up by your metal jewelry. That said, I rarely do that with mine and they still look great.

  • I loooooooove my pearls!!!! I have several pieces of jewelry with pearls. They don't require much maintenance at all, but I always keep them separate in their original boxes. Enjoy - great gift!
  • I got a strand of white pearls for my college graduation from my parents.  I love them.  Pearls to me always looks so classy.

I was told that if you are going to be spraying yourself with anything (hairspray, perfume, etc.) to do it before you put your pearls on so that they don't get a film over them.

Also don't stick them in jewelry cleaner because it will erode them away slowly.

I keep mine in the original box that is velvet lined to keep them safe and pretty.

  • Ditto what the other ladies said.

    What a great gift!

  • Yep.  Kepp them away from oils, fragrances, any beauty products, etc.  They are soft and can easily get dinged up so are supposed to be stored seperately.  That being said, I keep mine in a metal dish when storing.  Also, something about being re-strung every couple of years I think. Also haven't done that either.
