I don't know much about copyright laws, but I've always been baffled by something... why can you upload your CDs into an iTunes library but not movies?
I know there are 3rd party software packages that will do it, but why not iTunes directly?
Re: iTunes question
Simply put, it's copyright law.
It's legal to have a personal backup of your media (DVDs, in this case), but it is illegal to break the encryption on DVDs. Unfortunately, you have to break the built-in DVD encryption in order to rip a copy to your computer. THAT is why a big company like Apple won't let you do it, but smaller companies with less to lose are more than willing to help you out.
interesting!!
Agreed.
It's a very weird topic too. When you consider what's legal and what's not, copying your own DVDs to your own computer is in a fuzzy area. The generally accepted practice is that as long as the copies are for personal use, no one will give you grief over them.
