Work restrictions on FB friends?
Most of you know what agency I work for. The opposing side's boss apparently has forbidden any of her employees from being Facebook friends with anyone who works in my office. She has sent out friend requests to all her employees, presumably so that she can check their friend lists and make sure that none of them are FB friends with us anymore.
Have you heard of anything like this elsewhere? I think it's a little nuts and intrusive, not to mention a poor use of taxpayer dollars.

Re: Work restrictions on FB friends?
There are no restrictions, but Facebook is blocked at work. I did have a few co-workers as friends, but they couldn't see status updates or anything.
There have been cases, I've heard, where stupid people put confidential information in their status update. I think it's a little overboard and intrusive, but I have to imagine that's what's running through the opposing boss's head. Or maybe she's just crazy.
I have heard of restructions on Judge/Counsel friending but not between firms/agencies or of a boss checking up on it.
I wonder if she realizes that even if you have been accepted as a friend they can hide the friend list.
PS If I were an employee of hers I would deny her request and send her a message that I wasn't using FB for work related contacts.
I think it's crazy and would not friend said boss. Could she possibly even reprimand anyone if they didn't accept her as a friend? I just don't see that being legal.
Side note: one of the owners/manager of the company I work for is my neighbor in FarmVille and CafeWorld. He's awesome.
Oh and Facebook (among many other things) are blocked at my work.
Yeah, access to FB is blocked at work, but my office doesn't care who we are friends with outside of work whether it's opposing counsel, judges, cops, etc.
I actually feel a little bad for my counterparts. There's more of a backstory involved that makes this demand of hers completely ridiculous & laughable.
Well, technically I am not suppoused to FB at all from work. I try not to do it.
But there are no restrictions on who I can and can not be friends with on FB. I make a personal choice not to be friends with anyone who works FOR me or directly with me. But I am friends with 2 or 3 people from the "office" who don't get to see my status messages or tagged photos at all. But it's my own choice not mandated by the boss lady.
