Holiday Baking

Anyone doing any holiday baking?  Fruitcakes/Cookies, etc?

I've declared this week Baking Week 2009.  Yesterday was chocolate crinkle cookies (chocolate cookies coated in powedered sugar), today's sugar cookies and fondant, tomorrow's peanut clusters, Thursday's pecan pies (again), Friday's chocolate cake and cheesecake, and Saturday is covering the chocolate cake in the fondant, etc.

What are you making?

Re: Holiday Baking

  • On the weekend I go to my moms and help her bake. This is whats done so far. Chocolate chip cookies, chocolate peanut butter cookies, oatmeal cookies (plain, raisins, and cranraisins), white chocolate macadameian (sp) nut cookies, choclate cover peanut butter balls, russian teaballs, and sugar cookies. Im not sure how much more she wants to do. Normally there are about 4 other types of cookie that we make, but I think she wants to cut back.

  • Russian Teaballs are tasty!!! Do you make the spiced kind or the more short-bread like kind?
  • I'm not baking this winter.  We'll make cake balls and oreo truffles.  Those go over well no matter who eats them.
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • I'm making a red velvet cake for xmas with DH's family, and a hummingbird cake for xmas with my family. We're not doing cookies this year, because all my stress and studying made me chubby... I fell off the wagon. :(
  • Mom and I are getting together this Sunday to bake cookies and make some candy, although we're cutting back some this year. We're making molasses cookies, peanut blossoms (peanut butter cookies with a hersheys kiss in the center), decorated sugar cookies, buckeyes, fudge... not sure what else. That might be it- last year we made a ton of stuff and some of it went to waste. Last year I tried to make this pistachio brittle cause DH loves pistachios. I don't have a candy thermometer so I just followed the directions as closely as I could (this was a Martha recipe btw). Well, it didn't come out at all! I guess I cooked the sugar too long and so it was super crumbly and wouldn't stay together- it was just a bunch of pistachios and sugar clumped together. Fail. Won't be doing that one this Christmas.
  • Chick- post your red velvet cake recipe please!  I love, love, love red velvet (that is what our wedding cake was) and I am always looking for new recipes since it is kinda tricky to make.

All of the women in my family get together every year and make Christmas candies.  We make English Toffee, Fudge, Caramels, Divinity, Pecan Pralines, Haystacks and Peanut Clusters.  It takes us two full days (a Saturday and Sunday) for 8 hours each day but everyone loves them and expects to receive them every year. Plus we have so much fun getting together to make them.

  • I made chocolate mint candies for a food day at work but that's it so far.
  • This Saturday my Mom, sister, and I are getting together to make a bunch of cookies.  I think gingerbread, snickerdoodles, and I don't know what else.  Everyone in the (immediate) family gets to pick their favorite cookie and we make a batch of each, that comes out to 5 batches.

  • This weekend is the big baking day for me! I work Sunday so everything I need to get done needs to be done Saturday. I also work all next week so I really have no time to finish them up before Christmas.

I am doing 2 Pumpkin Rolls (one for Christmas and then for our Holiday party Saturday.) Chocolate pudding fudge, homemade pepperment hot chocolate, white chocolate pepperment bark, Chocolate/Butterscotch cookies. Peanut butter kisses cookies. I do believe that is it! haha

  • I am also making a Red Velvet Cake for christmas. I have never had it before and I have always wanted to try it. I also made chocolate chip cookies on Sunday night but....they've pretty much all disappeared. My mom has made marshmellow snowballs and peanut clusters. That's probably all we'll do since we have a super small crowd for Christmas this year.

I think they are more like the short bread kind.

  • I think I'm going to do my baking on Friday and Saturday. I'll definitely make my mom's peanut butter balls (think homemade reeces!), spiced pecans, sugar cookies and maybe fudge. Gingerbread cookies if I have time. Yum.

  • I think DH and I are planning to make cheese cookies, peanutbutter blossoms (some with hershey kisses and some with peanut butter cups), chocolate chip cookies, and butterscotch chip cookies.

Michle, chocolate pudding fudge sounds good. Can you post the recipe?
